72 pet chicken i dont wanna be a pirate!

i just had my engine rebuilt and its still running a little rough. all the hard parts were either replaced or rebuilt. (cam, pistons, heads, crank, waterpump) was told i should convert it to an electronic ignition. what would i need and how hard would it be to do? iv worked on cars before but never any thing electrical. would it give me more power or just run a little smoother?

    help!!!

very simple, Send your points distributor to Dave the ignitionman. He can convert it to HEI operation or he can install a magnetic pickup that will plug into an aftermarket ignition box like MSD, Crane, etc. Contact him at sparkman451@earthlink.net He will need to know the particulars of your build in order to tailor the distributor to your engine. You will need to replace the resistance wire in your engine harness, but that is about it. The benefits of an electronic ignition are easier, faster starting, more power, and smoother running. Post your name so we know who we are talking to, we're a friendly bunch here.

so if i just buy an HEI type distributor, it should just plug right in with a little wiring? will i need an ignition box? sorry if i seem a little dense. im a rookie with all this stuff. any more info will be helpful. thanks...

Pete if you are going to upgrade your ignition do what larry said and send it to dave. It will cost you less both now and in the long run. If you go out and buy a HEI dis. the cap will be really big and you may find you have problems changing the timing due to interferance with the intake manifold. Daves conversion won't have this problem and you are basicly getting a new dis. If you want to run a MSD box or some thing like it you can have Dave put a trigger in it and you will still spend less money than buying a new HEI or rebuilt HEI dis.
