what will cause an engine to backfire through the carb. I have the timing set right. It only does it under a load and at full throttle?

Sounds like an ignition problem. Carbon tracks on the distributor cap or maybe on your coil tower. Bad plug wires could also cause this problem. :bglasses:

Could be an ignition problem, an extremely lean condition or a bad cam(not likely). What are your engine specs and means of fuel delivery? Type of ignition?

That usually means a lean condition, although it could simply be the need for a tune up.

Does it bog and give a big spit or is it repetitive? Big spit would be lean, especially when you first get into it. Repetitive would be cam or ignition. Flat lobe or firing on an open intake valve. What carb do you have?

Sorry, still waiting for spell check.
