When I had my Buicks in the past they all had the stock mounts on the frame for the engine, but now I see a lot of people that have "pads", or what look like a long block of metal that bolt to the frame. Why is there so much of a difference between the OEM and the replacements?

I think aftermarket pads for converting a small block to a big block are largers so as to utilize the same mounting holes?

What car-engine combos do you have experience with? It's pretty simple.
Small block A-bodies have a stamped steel frame pad bolted to the frame. Big block A-bodies have a cast iron pad bolted to the frame. Mounts/pads are big block or small block specific. All frames are drilled for both, but the pads and mounts must match the motor. The aftermarket big block frame pads sold by TA and Postons are virtually identical to factory frame pads.
