At the new summit racing site you can search parts by engine size. As you input buick, V-8, and 455, it then asks if you want the 7.5L or 8.0L. I thought that there was only one 455, can someone explain this?

Just do the math: 455 x 16.387 will show you the correct engine size in CC's....... :Dou:
Go over to a Mopar board and post the same question about the Dodge V10:
if you select this engine, you also see 8.0L/455 [IMG]

Perhaps they are covering a range of increase in displacement from boring and/or stroking. For example from 455.6 to 535 cid. Yes they are rounding at both ends of 7.5 to 8.0 litre.

Either that or they're just Buick-ignorant idiots. After all, this is chevvysummit we're talking about.

The actual number, just in case anybody is interested is:16.387064 or 2.54 x 2.54 x 2.54 that would make a 455: 7.45611412 litres if it was an actual true 455. the reason I bring this up? None, I just really love numbers!

    I have always used:

    1 liter = 61.02 cubic inches.

Don't remember where I got it though?? :Do No:

    I like:

    231 Cubic Inches = 1 Gallon

    462 Cubic Inches = 2 Gallons

    Must Correct Math Error!

Or you could just take bore (4.3125), square it, multiply by stroke (3.9) and multiply by number of cylinders (8), and then multiply the whole shebang by pi/4 (If I could figure out how to do the stupid "pi" symbol, I'da used it!) :-D

Your formula gives 105 cubic inches... :)

Divide bore by two to get r (radius). Then,

    Volume = π r*r*h * # of cyl

(boy, pi looks funny in this font!)

Listen, a Buick 455 is a 7.4L engine. Now, most companies call it a 7.5, but that is wrong, but if the have down 455 next to it, it's for the 455.

    Yes, the Buick 455 is a 7.4L

The answer to the trouble with the new Summit racing site is this:

They haven't a flippin clue about Buick engines

You're looking for Buick 455 parts; you came to the right place :TU:

Ask here, not at Summit's "Generic racin Bonanza!"

What parts do you want? Somebody here knows where to get it, how much you should pay, if it's worth getting, and if there are alternatives to using that part

Try us. Some of the most knowledgable folks in the Buick world come here to discuss V8 Buicks :beer

7.5 - 8.0 litre 455? Perhaps the engine tolerances are very loose.

I'm not sure about 8.0. I do know 8.2... it's in my '75 Cadillac Eldorado. It's a 500 cid. Some call 'em 501's, or 502's. Cadillac always referred to them as 500's. Not like the Chevy 396-402 etc.etc. etc .Like" my brother-in-law-hadda big block chevy 400 , blah, blah blah".

Still love my Buicks though. Have more of em than Caddy's!
