Sad deal on this historical track. Had the pleasure racing there a few times back in the late '90's.
    But not in a Buick!

Reading between the lines apparently they are not making enough money drag racing. Maybe insurance was too much? More noise complaints? Everything else appears to be continuing. A rotten shame.

Just thought I'd add that the beginning of the end was near when they dropped the Buick Weekend on Labor Day weekend a few years back. So sad. Many great memories.

Hopefully NHRA contacts Atco raceway to see if they would like to be sanctioned by NHRA they were at one time . The only dragracing facility we have left in New Jersey, other than Cecil county Maryland. I guess we'll just have to go back to old-time street racing like the old days

Sad to see these iconic dragstrips disappearing.

Insurance and noise has killed a lot of race tracks.

New England Dragway is heading in the opposite direction, expanding. Added a motocross track, and all the noise that goes with it. Noise and speed, alive and well here in southern NH......Jim

If Im correct, it was because WE weren't bringing the car count (read - gate money) that we used to bring so we were edged out. Its got to be more than just a few years since we had our own deal there, so if that is indicative of the times .. Im sure we could all rattle off two hands full of people who we used to see at the track but don't anymore (and Im halfway to being one of them ..)

Hey Alan that sentence was supposed to be read with heavy sarcasm or at least for a bit of humor.

The Buick weekend came to an end when Hemmings Musclepalooza barged in and took over in 2010, I believe. They were there for 2 years and then left because they weren't getting the crowds they were getting up in Lebanon Valley.
