    dualqwad ...just another lost soul

Go clean out your spray gun before the stuff hardens up in it! :eek2:

Yeah that stuff will really harden up rather quick at that ratio. When it's done drying get out some sand paper and check to see if the primer sand or feathers back good. If so you may have got lucky. If not you may want let is sit for a few more days and try it again. If still doesn't feather good, then you have an adhesion problem. Were there many spots to bare metal or was the whole car bare metal? Let me know.

I was told a while back that if you mix on more hardener than needed, you are basically just wasting the hardner. The paint or primer won't actually dry faster. I don't think you will have a problem with the primer, but you will want to call the paint manufacturer. Thats a lot of hardener, so a call would be best. I like to write the ratio on the can so I don't forget it.

It would be a heck of a job, but probably the best thing a person could do would be to take it back down and start over.

yeah, the whole car was bare metal. hopefully i can just scuff it up and put the primer surfacer on as normal

You had better try and sand trough it to see if the primer stuck to the bare metal before you put any Primer surfacer on it. If the primer feathers,... then in my opinion you got lucky but if it comes off funny then you better strip it agan.

Extra hardener doesn't hurt things. As long as it was wet when it hit the panel, it will be fine. I wouldn't even scuff it. That epoxy is great stuff, and very forgiving.

Never hurts to be cautious, but not enough hardener is bad.... too much is just wasted material. Its like adding extra hardener to fiberglass resin. Its still just as strong, it just hardens faster. :Smarty:

Jon,... i'm assuming you've done this before and I know I've been painting for awhile. We don't know if "69bigblock" has sprayed before :Do No: ? If he is a rookie, we don't know how long he waited to spray after he mixed it. I understand the hardner issue you are pointing out but it all goes back to the sprayer. Is he just stating that he screwed up :Do No: ? We need him to chime in again before we can actually give him good advise. I always base my answers to painting question assuming the they are rookies. :TU:

Good point on the sprayer. I have sprayed many cars before, and use that epoxy everytime. Its always been forgiving, and easy to work with. Your right though, I should base it on alloted time between mix and spray. Gosh, what mess that would be to have to strip it back off again. I've been there and its frustrating. So much so that I only spray my own stuff anymore.

I think the paint manufacturers would probably say different.
