IF you have an A/C equipped car it should have a Stud on the Front - Passenger Side exhaust manifold for a Brace that is used to help support the A/C Compressor. These are now available and feature the correct "Ramp Lock" design as used by Buick. Cost is $10 for the stud and nut - plus shipping Not exactly sure what years used these but 1970-1972 for sure . . . . . If somebody knows if these were used in 1968/69 please chime in! Note: These may need to be cut down a 1/4" or so on some applications! I accept Pay Pal and all major Credit Cards. Neither of my cars have it. I may have seen it on an upper series car. I'll have to look on the Riv I have.
The photo I posted is from a "survivor" GSX we have in the shop.....it was brought to us to remove the "day two" components and put the factory parts back on and detail the engine bay. It will be at the Nationals in a few days!
I'll look at my X when I get a chance. Bought it from the original owner in 86. Only has about 44k miles and is in it's original paint etc. I'll also check my 54k stage convert. Maybe I am wrong, but don't remember those brackets on either. I may have to eat my words.
I to have NOT seen this brace before on any of the cars I've worked on or owned over the years but this GSX has it and it's the most original car I've ever seen. Many of you may know the car but . . . . I have not restored that many A/C cars though and it is shown in the Chassis Manual so ?!?!? My guess is some cars received them and some didn't but I don't know what the reasoning would be. I'll also add that I've had at least a dozen customers call me over the last couple of years and asked if I offered that stud . . . . . .
This was intended only for models 64, 66, 82 according to the drawing note "(64-66-82)" so this was used on big cars. It's possible that it could have been accidentally used on some A-bodies as well or added by the owner at some point. It's not present on my original, matching numbers, 1970 GSX Stage 1. 64 = LeSabre Custom 455 66 = Wildcat 82 = Electra 225 If it was intended for the GS455 A-body it would have a 46 like these other notes:
Good info Gary. They must have found there way on to some of the GS / GSX models judging by the GSX we have in the shop and the amount of calls I get asking for the stud. . . . . .
