i have decided to leave the manifolds on the motor, and am just going to run a set of duals dumped at the rear wheels, I was wondering where the best deal is on getting dual exhaust or what I should get. Dont' worry I'll be getting headers later on, but for right now I need exhaust period. And what do you guys think has the nastiest, meanest sound for a muffler/glasspack??? i'm open to suggestion here thanks matt :3gears:
Cheapest exhaust is from a local exhaust shop non- mandrel bent . Best flowing muffler by test head to head is Walker Dynomax which is sold by Summit--- 20 inch in length # 17749. All things considered the longer the case the better.
I just bought a pair of cheep turbo mufflers, they are loud. If you want realy loud then get glasspacks, they are very noisy.
i purchased , about a month ago, a pair of dynomax super turbos & had new 2.25" tailpipes fabricated . the sound is great & the mufflers were about $63 each cdn . also had a pair of chrome tip welded onto the end of the tailpipes . u would be surprised how good they look .
did any of you have any pics, and what has all of this been costing you to get it done, or have some of you done it yourself?? I'm probably gonna buy the mufflers or whatever I get myself and just take them to a shop and have the pipes put on, cheaper that way, unless a friend of mine does it for me.
I usualy buy the pipe from the guy who bends it for me. It's hard to say a certain price, depends on were you route the exhaust and were it exits the car. I would get some High quality mufflers if you can or some cheep ones untill then. You might look into buying a set of tailpipes already bent to clear the axle, then get the rest made by the shop. Oh and Madrel bent tubes are best but more expensive.
If I understand correctly, you can/will hurt your low-rpm torque with too little restriction in your exhaust. Even a mild 455 is fine with 2.5" exhaust, from what I've read on other threads. The 3" exhaust does nothing for you if the rest of your combo doesn't push enough air thru to take advantage of it.
yea, I was thinking 3 was awfully big, it would be nice to have eventually, if I had like a 462 or something haha. But 2.5 is plenty for my 350. Thanks for the feedback ya'll
glass packs are not noisy if you run a proper tail pipe. I have a cherry bomb on my 350 wagon and it has a nice quiet deep rumble. It is installed in the stock location with a tail pipe ran out the back / side. Exhaust / mufflers need some tail pipe to get the right sound. Any exhaust that just ends at the muffler with no tail pipe is loud. I know lots of guys like the turbo 2 as it will blow out the guts easy and be free flowing.
oh yea?? yea I'm pretty sure i'm just gonna dump the pipes at the axel and of course I'll have to have tail pipes then. But cherry bombs are pretty dang loud, i'll bet its an eye opener when you romp on it huh??? but I have NOOOOO problem with that.
yea it sounds mean but no louder then a say normal big v8 with a flow master system. Its actually sound real good. not loud at all. I have run lots of cherry bombs and they were all loud as heck without a tail pipe. I usually install them backward too so them little bent down lips grab nothing. But a shop hook that one up so it may be on right. Brought in my own muffler and it was $75 for cat to rear piping. That the only thing I meant. I see lots of 2nd gen camaro guys who just end it with a muffler right in front of the axle cause the over axle tail pipe is to much. But the sound is much better and cleaner with one. I just hate to see someone skimp, if there is any performance loss in using a tail pipe. its worth it to the ears.
yea true, but I can put the glasspacks on further up or whatever I decided to get depending on clearance issues and wahtnot haven't really looked to much, but I can make them dump before the axle. Plus I can always have it exit out the side of the car before the rear wheels, that would sound pretty mean too also
I just posted this in another section , it worth reading over. There is some good stuf in this article. http://www.pontiacstreetperformance.com/psp/exhaust.html The Strong Silent Type "You can build a quiet exhaust system that performs almost like open headers." By Jim Hand & Tom Hand
