My car just left Jim's shop at TSP. No more issues with running rich, no more concerns with running too lean. No more issues with cold starts and no choke provision on the TA intake.

Very nice. I think engine management for old cars will be increasingly popular now that NASCAR uses it. It is such an improvement over a carburetor.

What are the specs of your system?

Thanks for sharing the pics! (Re: Ez efi)

Hello Tim and V-8 Buick EFI fans,

Thanks for sharing the pics and the initial report. Do let us know how you like it once you have put a few miles on it. Jim is supposed to be doing something similar for the big-block Buick engine I've ordered for my trusty wagon. Certainly hoping it will work out as nicely once it is installed here in California.

    Thanks again!

    Cheers, Edouard

P.S. What did Jim do about the fuel pump? Did ya' go with the EZ-EFI external scheme?

actually almost too shiny. when it had that old carb on top it toned down everything. now it is looking like I need a billet housing for the alternator :dollar:

Not sure what you mean, ECM, O2 sensor, coolant sensor, 4150 style throttle body, 600hp fuel pump.
    If you mean the motor:
it has reconditioned cap screw rods, polished balanced crank, custom Diamond forged pistons 10.5:1, TA 1.6 roller rockers, TA 413 cam, ported heads with the large TA valves, ported TA intake, Poston headers, 2-3/4" Pypes X-System with cut-outs, TH350 with 2800 TCI, SFI external balanced flex plate, 3.55 Richmond posi, Steve Reynolds pan, Be Cool

This motor was broke-in on a dyno but it still ran terrible in the car for some time. The first two hard passes I blew head gaskets. But it now runs smooth and pulls hard to 6000rpm. Hoping it will show me some luv for 1600 miles on the HR Power Tour

Went with a new FI tank with pump.

Feel safer with the intenal fuel pump (Re: Ez efi)

Hi Tim and V-8 Buick EFI fans,

Thanks, I'm planning to follow your lead and go with a Spectra Premium EFI ready tank. The external fuel pump may be "okay" . . . but I prefer to be conservative when it comes to things like that. Appreciate another person going with the same hunch!

    Cheers, Edouard

Have fun on the Power Tour! I wanted to make the first two or three days as a passenger, but I'm travelling to my College alumni picnic the same week and donating about $900-$1000 worth of stuff to the department so figured I better be there =P

Congrats on the EFI. Ive got the same system and happy with it to date with the exception of starting ( cold or hot ). Probably has more to do with my cam choice though. Just wanted to be sure to let you know though that opening up your exhaust cut-outs will likely wreak havoc on the system since it relies heavily on the O2 sensor and even the slightest amount of exhaust leak ( whether coincidental or on purpose ) will cause the system to think it is overly lean and will begin to dump fuel to catch up to it...exhaust cutouts, open headers, etc... are a big no-no with this system...just trying to save you some grief.

I would say it depends on where the cut out are relative to the O2 sensor. You need at least enough pipe past the O2 sensor to prevent the reversion of O2 into the pipe from reaching the O2 sensor. I'd say have a minimum of 18" of pipe after the O2 sensor before the cut outs, and more is better. If your O2 sensor is in the collector and your cutout is bolted to the collector, you will have trouble, especially at idle and low rpm throttle.

I appreciate the heads up. It seems pretty obvious that the O2 sensor would be an issue if I took the cut-outs off, but honestly had not thought of it and was planning to do exactly that when I went to the track next week. Not sure if I drove it some with the cut-outs open that it would not self learn?

It will self learn. Self learn to be incredibly rich because of O2 reversion to the O2 sensor. That's the warning that was given. The sensor won't be able to tell if the O2 is coming out of the engine (and needing more fuel) or if it's coming from the atmosphere, it'll just see a ton of O2 and think it's lean.

X2 and no problem just don't want you chasing your tail with tuning issues...im still trying to work out a few bugs on my combo with the efi too but this bug can be avoided. As Silverbuick stated earlier, it might not be an issue if you put them further down the stream, might be worth trying and if you do please let me know what you find because Id like to put a set on my car too for the "cool" factor at a stoplight...:Brow:

How does she drive? (Re: Ez efi)

Hi Tim and V-8 Buick EZ-EFI users (and wannabees)

It's been a few weeks since Jim performed this bit of automotive magic . . . . so tell us, how to you like the way the car behaves? Any other tidbits about switching to EZ-EFI? Did the system self-tune reasonably well and quickly? Is the car starting better? Any difference in gas-mileage?

    Come-on . . . . spill da' beans!! :)

    Cheers, Edouard :beer

P.S. Did Jim have you stick with the stock EFI pump that came with the Spectra Premium tank? Ken Warner suggested to me in my thread on the plumbing for a Spectra tank to EZ-EFI that I should upgrade the fuel-pump. I was wondering if Jim did that in your case.
