Here is a link on our site showing the correct 8 track unit http://www.buickperformance.com/helppics.htm
That's interesting. I bought a 72 Skylark sometime back, from the second owner who did nothing to the car, and it had the black and chrome tape player. Odd???
I second that thought I agree with Jerry I have three 72's and all three have the black and chrome 8-track, two of the cars were unrestored and untouched when i got them both those had the black and chrome units. Maybe a mid year change??? Here is a tougher question if you had a four speed car could you get a 8-track and a consolette or would the 8-track not fit because of the consolette?? Thks Bill
Well, I have never found an 8 track in a Skylark/GS. Found two in Electras and two in 70-2 Grand Prix models. All the ones I have found were the black and chrome versions. I don't see why you could not get an 8 track with a 4 spd car consolette since they are not that close together. Maybe someone else knows.
My 71'' Gs came with a black style, 8 Track tape player, in the build sheet it shows box # 80 and has the word "tape" typed in the box, it does not show it in the lower portion of the build sheet form, though it does show the radio and speaker #s? been there since I bought the car in 89'' and spoke to the orig. owner and claims he ordered it with the 8 track. 8-track and 4-speed consolette will not fit together, not enough clearance. Could not be ordered together from factory.
Thanks Reg now I have to decide whether to stick with orignal 8-track or put in a consolette ?? Thks Bill
