On youtube i saw an exhaust manifold fix on a 455. They were using Fel-pro gaskets and Permatex. Smart move? Thanks.
Define "Permatex". Permatex makes about a hundred different products. WHICH ONE are you talking about? Fel-Pro's product literature says that Fel-Pro gaskets don't need additional sealers. For some of us, that's tough to get adjusted to. Is the exhaust manifold gasket surface FLAT and SMOOTH? How about the head surface? Most (not all) of my non-header exhaust background involves putting a flat and smooth iron cylinder head exhaust flange against a flat and smooth iron manifold, NO gasket, NO sealer, bolt 'em together. Just for giggles, what does the Buick service manual say to use?
After 50 plus years, many times your not getting away like the factory did it with two freshly machined surfaces. I use the metal fel pro manifold gaskets with great success using NO sealer
Thanks. The HI TEMP sealant ofcourse. I was only referring to the gasket AND sealant combination if that is a good idea. I feel more for the gasket without sealant.
That's for headers with manifolds they get slid back and forth over 80grit paper on the frame machine then a smear of the copper rtv,..no gaskets
