Sorry the search function isn't working today or I would have searched for this myself... I have seen some of you guys with the fender vents on your Regals. Where did you get them? Does it make a big difference for cooling down the big block or should I just put a cowl hood on there, or both?
I would do both. The vents look cool the ones that were on my car were from Kirbans but there are other companies that offer them
Thanks Chris. So you never sold your Regal? I'm thinking of pulling out my AC condenser and stuff. Do you think that will let more air in to the radiator?
G-Body Dave had them on the 79, they looked great. Pics were lost in the crash tho... IIRC he said there were 2 kits, one cheap plastic kind that was useless, and one that was solid fiberglass. They won't let more into the rad, but they let a LOT of heat out from under the hood, the V-6 guys claim they can hold thier hand out the window and feel heat pouring out of the vents under 5 MPH. You have to cut the engine-bay-side out of the vents to make them functional, and opening up the inner fenders isn't a bad idea. You can also remove the rear weatherstripping and raise the hood 1-2CM.
There's a guy on the Turboregal site offering a new pair of gnx style vents for $65. Is that about right? I was hoping they were a lot less.
I can get you a pic of what they look like on a 79 if you want.Let me know...You can feel a little bit of heat coming out but not enough to really help the cooling of the engine bay.. But they look really cool
There is no modification to the inner fender, as of yet but I am think of cutting some sort of a hole then take some small ruber hose and slice it down the center and put it around the edges to dress it up when the car is finished I think .but the passenge side might be a problem with the air box there.
I would love to see what the inner fender looks like on somebody who is using these to let some hot air out. Most everybody I have run in to are only using them as dress up. I need some real functionality. I'm still running too hot. I've looked in to adding a cowl or a hood scoop. Which is prefered or better?
Mark, Most of the GNX guys over at turbobuick.com will have the exact details, but as I understand it they really just open as much of the fender as possible then put a small ari diverter at the back of the hole. The airflow under the hood is front to back, this scoops a bit of the warm air out. We've discussed hood louvers like you see on a pontiac Grand Prix before, as well as hood scoops. You can also pull the rear weatherstrippeing and pick the rear of the hood up 1/4" to let it vent better. Post pics once it's done tho!
I will definitly post pictures of in progress and when it's done. I found a Grand Prix in a bone yard that had the hood bent from a front end crash. One of the hood louvers was half way out and the other one was gone. I looked all over the place for it. :af: Thanks ya'all.
Carefull on the fender vent from poston ( the cheaper ones) I bought a pair and sent them back they were like paper thin and fastened with double sided sticky tape???? The " real" gnx vents are way more expensive but you get what you pay for!!! Hope that helps? As far as hood vents go what about 82-91? trans-am hood vents or lumina z-21 or whatever? hood vents or sunbird vents? didn't the t-bird turbo cars have a hood vent as well? aren't wrecking yards fun!!!!
I get to go bone-yarding on Saturday. I can't wait! There's a nice bone yard in Indiana. I'll be over there for mother's day weekend.
