They look too big at first glance, but when i opened the picture they dont look too bad. I think you need to LOWER THE FRONT to give it the right stance! Sweet car, i like the paint, but i may be biased a little .
I'll have to update the pictures, thats after i lowered the car and pushed it out. it sits lower then that now. actually had to trim front wheel well lipt to keep from rubbing over big bumps on highway. yes thoughs are dumps and they rub now over speed bumps and in and out of some driveways, they are going to be relocated and moved up so they don't rub. thanks guys curt
I agree the front could drop an inch or so, or maybe its the view? My experience with header ground clearance is that 2.25" causes too many problems but 2.75" is acceptable if you are careful.
I love the look. 18" torque thrusts are what I want to put on mine, but I too agree that the front needs to be lowered a bit. Looks good.
Matt, you and I are in the same spot. I am also thinking the TorqThrust look is ideal for our cars. When you do get them, be sure to post photos! I can tell everyone, that I've seen Curt's car up close and personal, and those wheels are very nice indeed. Your pulse will really jump when you look under the hood, tho' ... Jim
your ride looks great, are the rims the same size on the front as the rear with the same offset? Thanks Gord
Yes they are the gun metal finish and they are the same size all the way around. 18x9.5 with 5.5 inch back spacing, could have used 5 and 3/4 b.s. or even 6. But 5.5 is as much as they listed. Don't know if they will make custome back spacing but would probably be pricy. Thanks for the complament and look for it on the cover of the jan. issue of popular hot rodding. It comes out sometime this month. curt
thanks, they were a lot of money for me but made it the car i always wanted. Well the paint is currently from a rattle can. Doing body and paint this winter hope to be done for the power tour. Teh color may stay the same until i can decide on a color, but want to get the body stright at least. The cover will have 12 cars on it, its the readers rides issue. I submitted some photos and they must have liked them. There will be another lark on there to. A 72 that is perfect very nice car. Lets just say mine was the only one with a spray can paint job. But i also drove my car to the shoot 5 1/2 hrs one way. Gotta love the overdrive and lock-up. curt
I went to there site, and the black chrome and flat black look wicked as well. http://www.coyswheel.com/coys.html Curt is your car lowered at all, i'm getting close (i hope) to ordering wheels at some point this winter but my car is lowered 2" on the front and 1 1/2 on the back and i'm concerned about the max width i can run on both ends of my car with it being lowered. looking forward to seeing your car in the Mag, thanks Gord
Hi gord the back is fine plenty of room could even go with a wider tire. About 1 inch of clearence on the inside of the wheel well to the tire. Its closer on the outside but still good room you shouldn't have any issues with rubbing and that size tire. the front is maxed out can't go bigger unless you can get more back spacing. I have maybe an 1/8 of an inchclearance when turning the wheel it never rubs but its close. I did trim the lip of the wheel well because the tire would rub the fender on big bumps. Wich i thenk could be helped by stiffer spring rates. Also on hard cornering it rubs a little still going to masage the fenders some, along with suspension up grades. but it never rubs under 90% of my driving and its worth it for the look. the ride height is close to stock i think. stock springs in the rear and i do have big block chevelle springs up front that i cut one coil off. the top of the wheel well opening is at the top of the tire and thats the look i like. you might be better off going with a thinner width wheel in front but keep the offset. i like the wheels and tires to be right at the edge of the top of the fender. if they are in to far the car doesn't look right to me. thats why i also run as close to the same width tire on front and back i like fat all the way around. don't like the fat skinny look. love the pro-tour look. if you want pictures of the gaps let me know always willing to help curt:TU:
also gord a good place to visit is the chevelle form and there pro turing and wheel and tire lots of guys doing these set ups i got alote of info there on sizes and off sets. But again i'll help how ever i can just let me know.
hey f you guys like the torque thrust look both jegs and summit make thier iwb versions of it in either all chrome or chrome lip with gun metal grey spokes jegs is called something like torque stars? and summits is called something like legend series ibeleive both comes in 17x8 in 4.5 and 5bs and 17x9s come in 5.0bs? and 6.0bs 140 for the 8x and 160 for the 9in
thanks alot for the info Curt. i agree with you on the wheels as close to the outside of the fenders as possible. your setups is one of the nicer i've seen and i like the look of the Coy wheels too. I;ve seen alot of nice wheel setups on cars at Sema but it seems the guys that build the cars are forgetting about the stance on the front wheels even if the backs are huge or even tubbed to the point of almost rubbing? I may go alittle narrower cause my car is lowered but i have been talking to the body shop about rolling the lips so i can run the max size tire setup when i take the car in for the stipes, touchups and clearcoating. if i need more info i'll shoot you a pm. thanks for sharing photos and infor. one last thing, did you buy your wheels direct from Coy or a retails store? Cheers, Gord
