Hello, im new here. I have a 1970 GS, Stage1,455 Riviera. I was thinking of selling it because i dont have any info on body parts to fix it. Also i would like to know how rare, or not it is. It came with White top, red paint, air plane shifter, 342 posi, air shocks. I had the engine, complete rebuild, trans refreshen, only has 60,000 miles on odm. Am/Fm, and 8track. All parts are there. Thx for any info. The car will flat out fly, i beat a 03 mustang with it. Also came with some type of ignition spark enhancer. This car has things, the part store dont belive, like a electric in tank fuel pump.
The HP Riv started in the 1971 model year. If it says stage 1 on it someone added that after it left the factory.
No it has the stage1, it was installed because the car was built in 11/1970. I think it was special order. The block has ss on the driver side, by the plug, or sr i forget now. I remember the machine shop what this engine came out of be cause they said it had forged rods.
Welcome! You have an interesting car: it sold tens of thousands of copies, and you rarely see one today. Do you have the small skirts or the full ones?
Rods are the same for non stage and stage 1 cars. You might want to get the paper work for your car from the Sloan museum if you do not have it.
Ok, thx for the info. I have the number off the tag under the hood, any info on these numbers. ST-70-49487 EUCO25678BDY, TR695, 74-A PNT, 08B. I heard that the letters on the block between the plugs would tell you if it was a Stage engine or not?
ST-70= 1970 model 4= Buick 94 = Riviera 87 = 2 door hardtop EUC = Euclid Ohio Fisher Plant O25678BDY = Fisher Body Sequence Code TR 695 = Pearl White interior with bucket seats 74-PNT = Titan red body paint A = White vinyl top 08B = Built 2nd week August 1969
Thats the most info ive had since i got the car. So its has GS on the front, lower fenders, by the turn sig, and the letters SF on the block, near the plugs. So its not a GS, Stage1?
SS was used for GS A body cars. Does the partial vin exist on the deck between the the first two plugs on the driver' side. If so how does it compare with body and title VIN? What are the carb numbers on the driver's side --vertical numbers near the throttle shaft?
I'm afraid not. That is the same engine that a 70 Estate wagon, Electra, LeSabre 400 have. And it is the same code they use.
Dont have the carb where i can get to it, but the number on the engine between the front two plugs seem to be 40H205215.
The SF should be the standard motor for a 70 Riviera. Should not be a Stage1but one never knows what can be done at the factory. The Riv used its own carb # and should be 7040247. It will not be the same as an Electra or Wildcat carb.
If the engine came in you car it should read : 40H9_ _ _ _ _ All the 70 rivs I have seen have the number 9 after the letter H on the original engine. The blanks should be the last numbers of your VIN.
Well im a little disappointed, maybe i can find someone on here that will give me what i have in the engine.
70 small valve engine really the same as a 70 Gran sport SR although they fudged around with the rating numbers depending on the body they put them in. Riv called it a 370 hp but it was the same as the gran sport rated at 350 hp. Carb numbers differed among the engines.
Ok, well any idea how much HP it may put out? I installed a Poston intake, 268 comp cam, and MSD HEI.
I think you will find no increase from a MSD or a HEI and for sure MSD claims none. Poston might not be a preferred intake for gains. It might just be a savings in weight. Someone could run the cam into a desktop dyno program.
