Finally pulled the chain out...

    Finally pulled out the timing chain. Nicolas Sloop dropped over to help. I say help, but I went for the fuel pump and looked over to see him ready to pull the balancer. Needless to say, he was quicker than I could keep up with.

    It was so slack you could almost get it off without removing the sprockets. the cam had to have been significantly retarded. Amazingly, even after 146k, the original nylon sprocket still had all its teeth, but it was so full of stress cracks it could have gone any minute. On its side, the chain lays down like a rubber band.

    I still have some prep work to do before reassembly, but no doubt it will restore some life.

    I need to order the neoprene seal from TA. Anybody know the part number off the top of their head.

    BTW - crank gear DOES come off without doing anything with the pan.

    If you go with a double roller instead of stock, make sure you clearance the fuel pump arm otherwise it will rub. Also I have heard of some people elongating the fuel pump mounting holes to get the clearance. Of course if you go with a stock setup, then you are OK. Brian :)
