What is a good set of finned nailhead valve covers worth? I have an extra set and I see someone in Hemmings was looking for them. Is $150 out of line? SkylarkNut
Yes, original Buick finned covers Yes, they appear to be the real deal. Buick on one side on both covers. Not sure what years as they came with my car as extra parts in the trunk - Actually about 2 trunk load of stuff. One is cracked around the bolt hole. Looks like an easy fix for a pro welder. I'm not looking to give them away. I'm looking for the going rate on these. Anyway to pull this info from Ebay? I will pull them down from the attic tonight and take some pictures of them. Thanks Kevin
$150 is on the low side for an undamaged pair. I'd say the range is $150 to $250 for a good set. In the condition you describe, I'd say it's a fair price. They are reproduced now, TA sells 'em.
I'm not a good source for going prices. It was only in the last 4 -6 weeks that I decided that my '53 Buick Special Convertible was going to get a nailhead rather than a Chevy small-block. But if you are looking for E-Bay prices, it looks like two sets have sold this month. The first set was an undamaged pair, Item #2459185671 which sold for $320.00. The second set was a NOS item, Item #2459771930 which sold for $445.00. (The best way I have found to find prices on E-Bay is to do an advanced search on closed items, but they only go back about 30 days.) I'm not sure what a damaged pair would be worth. Different threads on this board indicate that T/A is making good reproductions for under $300.00. Depending on how bad the crack is at the bolt hole, I would still be interested in yours at the $150.00 you originally mentioned.
If you would like to sell at $150, E-mail me with particulars re: shipping cost and address for payment. My E-mail is: littlegto64@hotmail.com.
I was leery of those! I saw those, and after looking closely at the pics they looked like they had been blasted. I say that, because compared to the set I had on my '66 Riv, the finish looked very coarse and the letters and fins did not have very crisp, defined edges. Either that, or they were those inferior repros.
