Those of you running the Indy 500 tires in the 255/60-R15 size, what do you like for air preasure? I see the side wall has a max of 44psi. This is a new size on my car from the 215/75-R14's and Id like to get the psi close before I drive a bunch. I mainly dont want to start out too low a psi and cause a funny ware pattern, I was thinking arround the 38psi mark to start.

The correct tire pressure will be dictated by load. Just because the maximum on the sidewall is 44 psi, does not mean you need to run anywhere near that pressure. I would start at 35 psi and adjust if it rides too hard, which it probably will. I run 30-32 psi in my tires.

44 is the max...that is a hot tire when loaded. Even though they are a different size, I would start with the original factory spec...30-32 psi. Just regularly monitor the wear of you are concerned and adjust the pressure accordingly.

i have about 31 or 32 lbs in 245r60x15 bfg radials. works fine for me and have even wear across the tread face.
i just purchased a new chevy cruze. it has 215r60x16 firestone tires and the recommended air pressure is 35 lbs.

I have tried explaing that to one idiot in particular that works at our company to no avail.
He insists that all tires be inflated to the max pressure listed on the sidewalls.
Everything from pickups to semi's/trailers to backhoes...

OK, thanks for the input. Sounds like about 32 is still appropriat. And no, I dont run my tires at the max on the sidewall. I guess I was trying to state that the new tires were merley rated at 44 max, were as the ones Im replacing had a max of 35psi. So it made me inquisitive if these tires were designed to be run at the same psi.
