Has anyone run both brands of tire that would care to make a comparison here? I've had a few different car's with the BFG 's, but the last Firestone radials I had were the Radial S/S, which was fazed out for the Firehawk S/S, that were also discontinued in favor of the Indy 500's. I guess more than street manner's, I'm looking for opinion on track manner's in the "Hook" department. Having a hard time talking myself into another $800-$1000 set of G60-15 Polyglas GT's.
Tom, the BFG's are way better than the Firehawk SS for the track and the street. The sidewalls on the SS is very thin comparably speaking. I've had both, or you can say been there , done that, got the T-shirt, seen the movie, etc, etc.
Tom- For a couple of years my BFG Radial T/A's actually did a decent job. I had 60' times in the 1.97-2.02 range. They seem to have glazed over after 7 years on the car. The best 60' I could muster last weekend was a 2.14 with an average in the 2.20's..............:rant:

All good stuff. Makes me want to buy another set. I will say that they have worn fast on my car. I do drive fast though. This could be why the traction is so good. I'd say they might last 15-20K driving like I do. This is hard driving, not burnouts...
15-20k? Doing the driving we do, let's see....1/4 mile + 1/2 mile shutdown, return...depends upon the track...Let's call it a mile per run for round numbers. Average 12 runs per 2 day event is 12 miles per event, 5 events per year...that's 60 miles...round that up to 100 for test and tunes.... Say 100 miles per year. 100 x 15= 15000 miles or 15 years use! Above calculations assume no excessive tire spinning or hard cornering. 350 Buick was used for the example since it couldn't spin the tires anyway. My BFG'S are almost worn-out after 5,000 miles. not good of mileage but the spin testing is one heckuva rush. They actually hooked real well this year.
I run BFG radial TA's on my Buick and Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's on my Charger and I actually prefer the firestone over the BFG. Seem to wear better and grab the road nicely. I like the tread on the firestones as well. Pictures for proof:

The Indy 500 is an awsome tire in my mind. I have a set on my Park Ave. and it made a world of difference in the handling compared to the grandma whitewalls that were on it. :3gears: I'd like to get a set to replace the Radial TA's on my Riviera!
swore by the BFG's...until I tried a set of the Firestones....The Indy is a much better all around tire
Thanks. I just looked at it the other day and being the end of the season it's in dire need of a major polish and wax. Since i'm here I might as well add that when I get my new steelies for the Buick I'm putting Firestone Indy's on them.
I run the Indy 500's on my 68 camaro and they seem to be a pretty good tire. Like you I didn't want to spend the 250.oo per tire they want for the poly-glass tires that are correct for my car so I did alot of research and found that the Indy 500's had the best dry traction. I think tirerack.com had some pretty good information, I would give that a try.
