10.95, run by Dave Dudek at Lebanon Valley in NY........

Dave also won the Factory Stock Class 11.07 to Julie Pennington's faster 11.03

I also know Rick Mahoney ran 11.18, but he may have gone even faster later

    :( Wow. Sad day indeed!
Was'nt too long ago, some could'nt contain themselves and ran 9's in FAST. It was the best day for the class and the worst day for the class.
It got lots of ink, but killed the class the same day.
Be interesting to see if this is what happens to Factory Stock!:Dou:

It looks like we now have a new class at the pure stock drags, I say we call it the throttle stop pure stock drags!! We're these times ran Saturday or Sunday? The air looked better today than yesterday. What was the mph for the top 5 cars?

Like a flashback to 1990 NMCA stock class at Memphis Motorplex.

Need to wait and see the 60 foot times and the mph numbers. Good air, good traction? Might even be that they have some really happy clocks.

    Mediocre air. Mediocre traction.
    Happy clocks? Seriously?!

X2. Unless the definition of factory stock has changed since back in those days, I don't remember any car that was factory stock that could run even remotely close to that, not even the factory super stock cars.

Before a few of us go all "chicken little" on this deal let me put the weekend into perspective..... My first pass on the new tires the Bee went 12.30`s@118.9 :Dou: After that pass I filled my tank up with the Q16, put the FAST "slicks" or bald tires on and my ET`s dropped right into the 11.0 range. In Pure Stock trim I would have been very lucky to breach the 11.50 zone.

The top Factory Stock guy`s who showed (Pennington, Me, Mahoney) all had fully threaded tires and bald tires. Had somebody like Bob k, Copo, Jimmy, etc showed we would have ran the fully threaded tires. Nobody showed so we decided to "let our hair down" so-to-speak and let it all hang out with the bald tires. We were in the east coast and the air was not too bad, track hooked hard 1.700 range.

LoL.... three years ago Jimmy went an 11.30 at the same track with threaded tires :eek2:. Ask yourself this question "what would he have run on that pass with a set of slicks, maybe add some killer gas..." Bob K went 11.50 3 years ago, add a set of slicks and a full tank of Q16 and he`s in the 11.teens EASY!!! This is not the end of the world, nobody is claiming this pass is anything else than what it was, sit back without a hot head and think about what these good old boys would run if they ran the same tires and made the trip to the east coast..

The cars are not stock.. If you build a combo using the liberties the stock classes allow ( 2 1/2 mandrel exhaust, H & X pipes, upgraded ignition and distributor, raise the compression 1 1/2 points over stock, any gear ratio, more valve spring pressure, shift kits, etc,etc..) this list goes on. The cars blueprinted to the edge start running way faster than any of us ever imagined, just a fact. If they took away some of these liberties the cars would slow down accordingly.

Good point, Pete. I think there will be a group of diehards that will continue to gather and have fun together. I'm in.

Will be interesting to see if anyone does run quicker than 11.50 at Stanton, and what the outcome will be.

    edit:
OK, now we get the whole story. Thanks for the update about the bald tires, Dave.
I hope that tidbit of info makes it into the press about this event.

Im sure that none of the people watching there were imformed of the happy changes to run those #s or did you have it annouced.I knew the fast guys leaving their own races series and going PURE stock was going to cause trouble they just cant help themselves. They havent even posted results from 2011 and 2012 Martin race yet. The Pure Stock race will get poisoned and people are already showing a lack of intrest for it now becuase of crap like this.

Nice looking car, and congratulations on the quick ET, but, "not purpose built" and "ran a 10.95" seems to be a contradiction.

Since this is the fastest pure stock car so far, can you tell us what the compression ratio is, and how did you come up with a cam for it ?

If anyone runs that fast at the Pure Stock Drags will be asked to load it on the trailer and leave.

I dont think most of us have to worry about being paired up with an 11 second car. If someone told me in 1988 when i started racing muscle car events, that in 2011,60-70% of the pure stock cars would run in the 12,s,i would have laughed at them. NMCA had a stupid, terrible format for racing. That is why it sucked. When you have to race a car 2 seconds faster than yours,it becomes silly. Every racer at the PSMCDR has an equal chance to have fun.It is what you make of it. As far as interest waning, its the change of times. This is a very costly hobby, and some of us dont have the extra cheese like we did 10 years ago,so you make choices. Last year,i watched my father have the best time of his life.He had a smile for 2 weeks after that race, and could not wait to talk about it,with whoever would listen.Sure i heard the same story repeated over and over, and i would do anything to hear him tell them one more time. I had no idea it would be his final trip down the track. Point i am making is,its not about the time you run,its about the time you have. This race has given me some great memories, and i will try to make it every year, for as long as i can.

As far as myself and FAST, i was legal 800hp, 3700lbs race weight and 1.56 60ft. Flat out no BS... We just had a great FAST race in NY yesterday, not dead..

Pete's car ran a 11.60 at Martin (i think?) everybody was faster here in the east coast by maybe .2 tenths over Martin, that puts Pete at theoretically 11.40ish, fill the tank with killer fuel 11.30 easy, add in a 1.68 60ft by installing bald tires 11.0's, Pete chooses to leave over a full point of compression on the table. (i'm guessing that would easily put him in the 10.90 flat range).

I think Pete's saying don't run the fuel, don't run the tires and contain yourselfs. Pete even choose to keep his compression at advertised compression (more containment).
