Hey, I forgot, what year was it that buick came out with a stage 1 engine, '68 or '69? And was it in a 430 or 400? TIA, -Cody
I thought I read or heard somewhere that it was an option in 68 for the 400's. But, I have never heard of any factory stage 1 400's from 68o No: Dan:3gears:
I know i've seen buick 430 stage 1 engines, but I forgot what year they came out in, and i don't know the horsepower torque numbers... -Cody
I never knew they made a 430 stage 1. New one on me. I have only seen 69 stage 1 400's. But, I have been told here many times that I don't know everthing.
To the best of my knowledge, the first production Stage 1 was in the GS 400. However there were dealer installed Stage 1's built on 430's. Am 99.9% sure that the Stage 1 parts were available in 68 and that they may have even been around in late 1967. This was gone through in another thread on here a couple of months back. Just my take on this, Mark
Thanks for your knowledge guys...what about the horsepower torque ratings?...anyone know them? Thanks -Cody
Testing my memory here. The GS400 was 340 HP at 5000 rpm and 440 ft lb of torque at 3200 rpm. The 69 Stage 1 figures were never very clear. Have seen 2 sets of numbers. Most common was 350 HP and there are others at 345 HP. It depends at what RPM and Buick did not give the RPM in the brochures. The ads I have were mostly 350 HP which is also on the order sheet. For some reason 4800 comes to mind, but I can't swear to it. Have to look at my old paperwork. My Stage 1 shifts automatically at 5200 rpm so who knows what the rating at that would be. Mark
