Don't expect major gains from the aluminum intake. Maybe 10 HP. But the other benefit is losing about 35 lbs up front and that's worth maybe half a 1/10th. When I built my motor, I filed off the Edelbrock Performer name and painted the manifold Buick red. Aside from not having the firing order on it, it looks very stock to the casual observer. :D

Yeah but what about filling the heat risers and adding a Performer?
Makes sense to me to do it at the same time as the dissy and carb.
Test run after a good flush and new thermostat shes running at 90C(194F) on a 20C(68F) day.
Think my kickdown fuse has popped again though....
    Yep!!.sure has!

As others have stated, there isn't much to gain from the dual plane alumi8 intake options, but personally I mess with my car often and intake comes off about once a yr, and a 10 lb intake beats a 60 lb intake in my opinion... About the risers, if you dr8ve the car in the winter months I'd be weary about plugging them. That's what warms the intake and operates your choke thermostat, also I'd runn cooler thermostat, 455s are happy in the 165-180* range

Another benefit to the aluminum intake is that aluminum conducts heat much faster than cast iron. If you paint an aluminum intake, the paint won't burn off even near the crossover.

I can attest to this. My aluminum heads and manifold are just as nice today as they were when they were painted about 2 1/2 years ago.

    Looking at intakes theres the
    EDELBROCK PERFORMER ED2146
    EDELBROCK B4B ED2515
Whats the difference and pros and cons to these manifolds?
Looks to be $100 diference in price over here.

The B4B is the original configuration and is a sightly better performer because it locates the carb differently and has better runners. Problem is the factory ram air cleaner wont line up with the hood. The Performer is slightly better than stock and the air cleaner lines up. Here's some date from some testing Jim Weise did back in 2004 on the two different manifolds:

Tested on a 500 HP street motor

    Stock '70 intake, untouched - 492HP

    Vintage B4B, minor plenum/portmatch - 511 HP

New Performer, no work (ports are smaller than B4B) - 498 HP

New Performer, same work as B4B- 512 HP

Ok..now when you say the B4B wont line up with the ram air hood is it a lateral mismatch or height?
Can a carb spacer bring it into line with the hood openings?

The Performer being only slighly better for the work and dollars, sounding like I may be better off just leaving it be, or blanking off the heatrisers.
Any threads in here on port matching thats required to get the max outta the newer one?

It pushes the breather assembly forward 3/4 in or so.

Too bad that test wasn't with a ported factory intake, you could probably have the iron intake ported and get close to what the other 2 did. BUT even with a ported factory intake it will still weigh around 70 lbs, that's 31.75 kg for the metric speaking people here. Just sayin, you'll probably want 2 guys to lower that thing down when you go back to reinstall it to make it easier to line it up and to not throw out your back!

50lbs lighter PLUS the extra 10 HP could get you another possibly .06 to .15 faster in the QM? Every little bit helps. The extra .1 would be by the cooler air charge that an aluminum intake with the exhaust crossover blocked would possibly yield?

Not sure if just porting the factory one would gain much at all even if you gained 10 HP, maybe .01 to .05 with the extra HP and ex. crossover blocked?

Reading the other older thread comparing Performer to stock shows up other downsides.
No Ill stay with the stock inlet I think.

Just make sure if you don't have any help to remove or install it to get a weight lifter belt for when you do those 2 things!

staying with factory inlet..Buick goes to Terry tomorrow arvo so it can be cool when he starts on it Wed.
the weather here means no test n tune that afternoon...maybe Sat night..but our club the Gold Coast Muscle Car Assn. has our big annual Muscle Car show the next day and I want to debut the Stage 1 there this Sunday.
So calm down Huey and stop raining please ( though its drought here and the farmers need rain)

okay..,got the car back today, cylinder comps 180-190, Timing, dissy needed work, rebushed and re-graphing now 14-34 degrees.
Carb the secondary flaps too were too loose and flopping open too early and because of that creating the bog.
Need to get her on the strip now for the acid test..was running fine on the street, the strip sure shows up any inadequacy.

Yeah not as curious as I ,
    13 point something I hope.
Wet weather here on the coast right now or Id be out at the track now, though our club has a big show on tomorrow, well if its not rained out that is.
Id rather be racing than hanging around a car show all day paranoid of grubby fingers on my black car.
We do have a club session organised for the 29th....dont think I can wait that long but.
Soon as the weather plays the game Ill get out to Willowbank Raceway.
Now shes tuned I can confidently mash my foot through the firewall and give everything 110%

20180909_080739.jpg 20180909_081230.jpg 20180909_081106.jpg Well the big black Buick attracted a lot of attention at yesterdays car show!
On the way home I sunk the boot into it a bit off the lights, took off real quick in a scream of tortured rubber!
The change into second broke traction again flicking the arse of the car out sideways a bit!...
Pulled real strong up the merging ramp.
Terrys tune up has certainly released some hidden mumbo and cant wait to see what she pulls on the track with sticky rubber.
Maybe Friday night if the weather holds.
Till then, a few pix from the show.
I got a mate to drive my '65 Valiant slant6 up to the show too to see if could attract a buyer.
