Hi everyone, Is it possible to convert the sealed power 70 style forged piston to floating pins? Or would it cost more than getting ross or some other light weight piston? The reason I am asking is I am going to be getting a set of Eagle modified BBC rods that are for floating pins and on Ebay there is a set of these pistons that will probably go pretty cheap. I think I want to stay pump gas but have a shortblock that will handle the rpms of some good heads and cam. I understand the length of these rods and offset ground crank and .030 over = around 475ci. I guess another issue will be balancing, will it be easyer to balance with light pistons or the heavy ones? Or is the same amount of work either way? I never did a stroked motor before so all this is new to me. My ultimite goal is to run in the 10s on pump gas. I realize it will take some real good heads to do this. I also wonder what kind of breakage problems I will have to run this fast on a heavy car. I am already having problems with the rear end now, blew spiders to pieces a couple years ago, and broke ring gear this year. :3gears:  Tom

Tom, It wil not be worth it to try to convert the sealed power pistons to full floating. If you can find anyone to do it, it would cost more than buying the correct set of pistons in the first place, not to mention the fact that those are heavy pistons to start with. You need to have all your ducks in a row before you start buying parts to do what you are trying to do. What length rod are you using? Does that rod use the chevy pin size, which is smaller than the Buick pin size?

Give me a call sowe can discuss what you are trying to do and I can at least steer you in the right direction.

Hi Jim, I was just talking to a friend about what I want to do and I agree I need to figure out what I want for sure. Only thing I am sure about is a pump gas motor that will pull decent on the top end and will be able to run high 10s when tuned in, and money will be a problem so it will be a buy a few things at a time when I can thing. I have a complete running 76 motor here to start with, it all together yet so I am not sure of what shape things are in, I am hoping its never been bored and crank is OK and that stuff, also would help alot if front cover is still OK. I would use my ported TA intake and 1050 holley from my current motor on it. I also have a Poston 110 cam thats hardly been run here but I don't know if it would do what I want, I would think it would be big enough by looking at the card. I also had at one time a used girdled pan but sold it for money for a converter, I wish I had it back now. Anyway the rods are 6.535 and are set up for a buick piston. The rods were in a motor before but one has had a bearing spin but sounds like it didn't damage the rod to bad, I plan on getting new bolts for that rod and having it redone, there is a shop about 45 minutes from me that has all the stuff to redo rods and have done alot of performance work. They even built a bored and stroked 215 and turned it upside down for a small airplane. Like I said the only reason I asked about the sealed power pistons is there is a used set on Ebay that look pretty nice and the current high bid is only $50 with about a day to go on them. i would really like the light weight pistons. I will give you a call soon because I have some other stuff to ask you about anyways. :3gears: Tom
