flush radiator

    Flushing the Radiator
    Is that something i can do, or should i take it to a shop.

    any suggestions on what to do?

  2. You can do it yourself, as long as you have a large enough catch pan not to let any anti-freeze hit the ground. I wouldn't recommend flushing just the radiator; the entire cooling system would be better. This can be accomplished by removing the thermostat (two bolts hold on the water outlet on the front of the intake manifold), then bolting the water outlet back on to the intake, removing the upper radiator hose from the radiator, and putting the water hose in the upper radiator hose. This will bring nasty stuff bubbling out of the upper radiator tank and will be a back-flush which is better at removing garbage.

    If your radiator is really gunked up, you should remove it and a shop "can rod it out" for around $50. For this process they remove the tank and shove a rod through each cooling passage getting the grime out.
