Here is my 1962 Buick Wildcat. It has under 50,000 miles on her and recently I pulled the original motor out of the car for a rebuild. (Too much blow-by) Anyways, had this 438 just laying around so I thought... why the hell not put a supercharger on it? I have shown it a few times and boy do I get a great response. People tell me they have only seen pics of a blown nailhead (except the falcon with the little 4:71 on it on youtube) Anyways, got a hold of Don Hampton, he loved the idea and he made a perfect fit manifold and pulleys and snout assy. I just needed the blower and a few other goodies. I am not saying much about the build of the motor since people have thier own ideas and concepts, either way, she "blows" the competition. Actually, I have been told I have none now. I have a sign in front of my shop.... "turbo's are for boy's, Superchargers are for men" (for those honda, subaru guys....)

Why take a 4 cylinder and put a turbo on it to scatter it and have 400 hp? When you can have a stock 325 nailhead and put ALOT more HP together? They can keep the little rice and kraut cars.:bglasses: 009.jpg

Hey Steve! I've seen the stuff you've been posting on YouTube. Very jealous of the blown motor in the Wildcat! I'd love to hear some details on the motor. Feel free to PM if you'd like. Glad you decided to come back to V8! :beer

I left for awhile because I got tired of the "perfectionists" who tell you what cannot be done, but with my own doing, works regardless. (T-400's dont fit a early nailhead, or 64 posi's dont fit a 1962 Buick diff.... even though I put the first t400 in my 1962 Buick Lesabre in 1985 and if you respline the 62 axles to 30 splines they fit)It was Kind of like when I went to the All Buick Show here in Portland last month. All of the judges and "purests" were upset about my Buick. They kept asking why? I kept saying "why not" If it fit, do it! Since it fit, I did it! I get MORE looks since people don't call her a "nice grandma's car" anymore. The other people (spectators and other people showing thier car) absolutly loved it. I had people all over the car. They had only seen pictures of blown nailheads like Tommy Ivo's and thats about it. But in person, it was awesome. Kids gots involved, dads had to bring back the memories of yesteryear. After the show, I felt that I did not belong to the group of the BCA either, so I am going to let my subscription expire out and be a loner and a rebel.

That is so cool!! I am now officially a bit jealous of your build. Those of us who love the nailheads are just a little off center anyways.

I'm all in with you. I am building a blown fuel 455 because I can, and I like Buicks'. Is there something wrong with that or does everyone have to own a chrysler? Keep having fun and others will soon join in!

Would love a 1965 skylark GS with a BLOWER! and a 4 speed. (I actually have an original super t-10 4 speed dated 1965 for the 65 GS skylark) What is it worth and do you know anybody interested?? Sorry, no shifter or linkage.

Thats awesome. Do you have a hood to fit? I have never seen one in person, How does it run when you smash the go pedal?:Brow:

I have 3 extra hoods, so I cut one up for the supercharger to "fit". I do have the original hood wrapped up in 3 blankets to keep from scratches though. I can remove the BDS scoop and it will be lowered quite a bit it's more for old class show.

I have been learning quite a bit from Gale Plummer from "plum crazy" superchargers here in PDX. For one, the camshaft has to be nearly stock lobe seperation. (112-116) Superchargers dont like lopey cams. Then the timing is critical. 23 degrees is nearly perfect for idle, but no more than 32 degrees total timing. Also, the point plate must be secured, remove and toss the vacuuum advance. Then in a distributor curve machine, you must have NO MORE than 4 degree total advance, period. Otherwise it will ping under acceleration. Then the supercharger belt has to be basically really loose otherwise the belt tightens up from heat and will yank the crankshaft harmonic balancer off. (happened already on the freeway at 45 mph. (slow traffic) Damn, when that broke, it put a ding in the radiator, "punched" a hole in the frame below the motor, dinged the trans pan, and dinged the exhaust and trunk bottom. It also punched a 8" round hole in the BMW 318I's oil pan that was riding my ass! HA HA HA It's all a learning experience, but well worth it. I got the Buick running in 3 hours after that happened, with all the extra nailhead parts I have with the experience and plus it does help that I own my own auto/repair shop. Soon I will be making a complete mandrel set of headers and exhaust for her. (I have a mandrel bender) If you want to see what a mandrel bender does, please look up "Mandrel Bender Clackamas" in youtube and you'll see what a 150,000 dollar machine does!

As far as the power??? Well, I followed a Viper coming to the shop yesterday, he got on the throttle, I kept up with him 1/2 throttle and said to myself "is that it???, is that all he has?" He has really obnoxious exhaust (loud and sounds like a Honda Civic with 2 fart cans) but he realy didn't seem that powerful, just noisy. He has plates that say "US-MUSL" ...... I was thinking that his car is like the dumb beach muscle guys, meanwhile my car is like Jack LaLanne, Old, but strong and keeps on going with smarts and intelegence as well as grace. (RIP JACK!)

Well, mine *could* be available if the price was right.:Brow: It is not an original factory 4 speed car. It does have the M-22 Rock Crusher trans and a 3.90 posi. The 4 speed conversion was very well done using a Berndsen bellhousing, along with correct consolette to match interior color.

Many people are not aware that when you install a blower, intake manifold vacuum disappears and is replaced with manifold pressure.

So, when I put a blower on mine, I'll have to give up my vacuum windshield wipers?

A good jimmy blower set up will peel paint..:eek2::laugh: and you will have to convert to electric wipers.... if you even have wipers... ever see wipers on a dragster??????

ahh, yuh... Perhaps you can find a vacuum pump from a Diesel! Actually, you would have vacuum at the supercharger inlet. That Roadmaster would look cool with a blower sticking through the hood - although as I remember, there's quite a lot of room between the top of the intake manifold and the hood.
