    Howdy,

Is there a visible difference between an '64 Ford 289 block and a modern '89 5.0 H.O. block?
If an engine was originally only available with hydralic lilfters can you run solids?
Can I use an 8.8 rear instead of a 9"?
Factory wheels are 14" can I go to 15"?
A Mercury Comet Cyclone only came with a single exhauste on a 4bbl 289, is it legal?
Does anyone race a collumn shifter?

    Thanks,

I`m gonna assume your talking about making the car FAST legal?

*The 5.0 block would be legal, there`s a tad bit of differance but nothing that keeps it from our theme.

*Any car can run hydralic or solid lifters no matter what they came with.

*If 14" wheels were the only factory wheel option that`s all you can run. You are allowed to run a G70-14 tire.

    * Your allowed up to a 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust system.

*Yes, Several guy`s are running column shifts. :TU:

You can click here for the FAST rules: www.fastraces.org/

    Thanks HemiDave,

I have an unusual facination with Comet running a small block for FAST. There doesn't seem to be much anyone running small blocks of anysort though. I really don't think I'd want to even make it competative, just fun to join the action on 93 rather than go for the compression needed to make competative power on race gas. I'm sure I'll have other questions along the way if I get moving.

When you ordered a 271 horse 289 K code Comet it came with duals and a "H" pipe. No matter, it's legal to upgrade to a 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust anyway.

A 347 inch Cyclone sounds good :TU:

289 California air injection smog heads (if you can find them) had bigger exhaust ports too.

    Who's K-code? I keep reading the Merc K-code was a 210hp low compression 4bbl?

    Wow ! :error:

I didn't realize that 64 K code Cyclones were 225 hp with a Holley carb.

    I own a 65 hi-po Cyclone and never realized 64's were different.

    Sorry......

You're not talking about a "3 on a tree" are you? That would be a wild combo!

I don't think it can be with a V8, but I guess its possible. I'm hoping its a 4spd stick or a Multidrive Merc-O-Matic, which I'll admit I have no idea what that is and I'd likely replace it with a C-4.
Does everyone run race gas or are there some 93oct hold outs?
