The reverse one is for an aluminum powerglide transmission and the forward one is for 350, 375, 400 transmissions.

The different offerings are for reworked (hotrodded) transmissions.

The trans only came from the factory with a standard (forward) pattern, so if it's a stock trans than that's the one you want.

However, in the aftermarket you can buy a valve body kit to convert the trans to full manual operation (that is, it only shifts when you move the lever. If you start out with the lever in "D", then you start out in third gear). These come in both a standard (ie, pull all the way back for 1st, move forward for 2nd, forward for 3rd) and reverse pattern (ie, forward for 1st, pull back for 2nd, pull back for 3rd).

    Does that help?
