I'm looking at getting a Hurst Shifter for my TH400. Now I don't know which one to order o No: They show one for Reverse Shift pattern valve body and one for Forward shift pattern valve body. Reverse: http://www.northernautoparts.com/ProductModelDetail.cfm?ProductModelId=13351 Forward: http://www.northernautoparts.com/ProductModelDetail.cfm?ProductModelId=13347 The tranny came from a 1970 Big Buick, 4dr Wildcat. Anybody have an idea? ThanX in advance.. :TU: Frank
The reverse one is for an aluminum powerglide transmission and the forward one is for 350, 375, 400 transmissions.
They have a chart that shows forward and revers for the TH400, that's whats throwing me off?? <TABLE style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt" height=278 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=528 border=1><TBODY><TR><TD>Hurst Quarter Stick Part Number</TD><TD>Valve Body</TD><TD>Applications</TD><TD>Hurst Pistol-Grip Quarter Stick Part Number</TD></TR><TR><TD>316 0001</TD><TD>Forward & Rev.</TD><TD>Powerglide (Alum. case only)</TD><TD>316 2001</TD></TR><TR><TD>316 0006</TD><TD>Forward</TD><TD>TH250,350,375,400</TD><TD>316 2006</TD></TR><TR><TD>316 0001</TD><TD>Reverse</TD><TD>TH250,350,375,400</TD><TD>316 2001</TD></TR><TR><TD>316 0030</TD><TD>Forward</TD><TD>TH700 R4 & 200 4R</TD><TD>316 2030</TD></TR><TR><TD>316 0009</TD><TD>Forward</TD><TD>Chrysler/AMC A727, A904</TD><TD>316 2009</TD></TR><TR><TD>316 0009</TD><TD>Forward</TD><TD>Ford C-4, C-6</TD><TD>316 2009</TD></TR><TR><TD>316 0014</TD><TD>Reverse</TD><TD>Chrysler/AMC A727, A904</TD><TD>316 2014</TD></TR><TR><TD>316 0014</TD><TD>Reverse</TD><TD>Ford C-4, C-6</TD><TD>316 2014</TD></TR><TR><TD>316 0016 Camaro 73-81 FireBird 70-81</TD><TD>Console Model</TD><TD>TH200,350,375,400</TD><TD> </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> http://www.northernautoparts.com/ProductDetail.cfm?ProductId=2408
The different offerings are for reworked (hotrodded) transmissions. The trans only came from the factory with a standard (forward) pattern, so if it's a stock trans than that's the one you want. However, in the aftermarket you can buy a valve body kit to convert the trans to full manual operation (that is, it only shifts when you move the lever. If you start out with the lever in "D", then you start out in third gear). These come in both a standard (ie, pull all the way back for 1st, move forward for 2nd, forward for 3rd) and reverse pattern (ie, forward for 1st, pull back for 2nd, pull back for 3rd). Does that help? :Smarty: K
