Right before I was born, my parents went out and bought a 1968 Buick Skylark. Up until 1981, I rode in this car with my mom. Out of all the cars they have owned, It is still one of my favorites.

I have wanted to buy a buick about that age for many years. More recently I have decided to look into it more. I am worried that as the years go by, there are less and less of these cars and will become more expensive.

Here is one car I am interested in.

1969 Buick Gs 350, 4 speed Manual. Owner says it is a stage 1, not sure yet. No airconditioning.

Interior: Great shape or has been redone. dash, no cracks, carpet and seats are in great shape. Headliner has a problem, but easily fixable. The arm rests are bad, need to be redone/replaced. Has original am/fm stereo

    Exterior:
Needs new Paint Job, Rust under both rear quarter panels around the wheel wells. Also rust behind the front tires under the doors.

    Engine:
Has sat for seven years, but the owner of this car used to be a mechanic, He has put a tachmeter and a couple of heat gages inside under the dash. Has cruise control? Vehicle has 71,000 miles.

    Owner Wants $8000

    Any Opinions?

    Thank you :)

For that kind of money, I'd make darn sure it was a real stage one.
I'm no authority on that subject but there are several board members that will chime in and let you know how to tell if the car is legit or not.
    My adivce when buying any car has always been this;
Offer them less, they just might take it.

    350's aren't stage1's.

If it was a GS400, then it has a chance of being a Stage car.

Very much overpriced. That generation of GS doesn't bring near that much, a project car like that might be worth 3-4k. A clean 68 GS350 would bring 8 in the right market. For that kind of money, hang on for a nicer car. There are some real nice 68-9s that show up every once in a while and can be had for a very fair price.

  6. Right, no Stage cars with 350's. Considerably overpriced. Sounds like it needs extensive bodywork, plus paint. If it hasn't been run in 7 years, likely needs some mechanical work too.

I bought my 68 GS350 2 years ago for $6500. Had less than 10,000 miles and 5 years on rebuilt engine and TH350. New black vinyl top, stripped to metal and repainted. New carpet, headliner, seat covers, door panels. It wasn't a professional job, but a decent amateur resto.

Here's a bigger pic than my avatar. More reasonable price would be in the $2-$3k range. Demand for 68/69 models just isn't that great, especially for a 350 car. Do you know what the VIN is? Please post it if you do.

I have seen the car twice, and I forgot the second time to get the vin #. And now I wished I had gotten the vin. The owners father is the original owner. Sentimental Price. I was thinking it was worth around 4 grand.

The Prices you are talking about are very affordable to me. I really don't want to tie up 15-20K in a car that just sits in the garage all the time. Plus, it isn't a Chevelle, or a Camaro. I like having something a little different.

My wife thinks I am crazy, I am on my second modified Jeep, and now I am looking for a car. She asked my which vehicle would stay outside because we have a two car garage. My thought, but not response, was hers. At least her family owned a 70 skylark. I am not rich, and have had to work hard for what I have. Sounds like this forum is like the Jeep forum I also belong to. And if that is true, I will be learning a lot of good information

Thanks for the replies and I will try to get the vin#

Hey Jeep, please post a name so we can be on a friendly first name basis...

And cuz, we here on this board drive our cars a lot and we drive them hard. Just like every car should be. There are only one or 2 trailer queens out of the thousand(s) of cars on here. So please drive 'em if you've got 'em!:TU:

And if any 60's era GM car has rot around the rear wheel lips, you can bet the rear window channel needs metal replaced. And also the trunk and rear seat floor should be looked at real hard as well - from the top and bottom.

Welcome aboard! And before you buy any purported Stage1 car, get our input first. There are many clones out there passed off as real Stages, so be careful.

My name is Brian, can you guess I own a Jeep? 1998 Wrangler, 2" lift, 32" tires, Winch, Hard and Soft top, and many other parts. I 4-wheel a lot, but I am not a rock-crawler.
With that: maybe I should say that my car won't stay in the garage.

In general, as most of you, I like cars, cars, cars. I wish I hadn't gotten married, I would have more cars.

I hope you don't mind some newby asking a lot of questions. I know a lot about Jeeps and such, very little about Buicks.

Thanks for the telling me to look at the trunk and the rear seat floor.

    :Dou: uh-oh...

Ask all you want. That's what we're here for.

Check the bottom of the windshield and rear window channels real well. And if it has a vinyl top, look and feel for any bubbles under the top. Bubbles=rot=$$$$$.

Also check the top of the vinyl roof (front and rear) as well underneath the stainless trim and check for cowl rust around the windshield area. I have looked at 2 or 3 cars recently with these issues.
