I was at a 93 year old mans house for work and noticed he had a 1995 Roadmaster Limited in his garage. I tell him if you ever want to sell the Buick let me know. He says I do need the room and walks me next door and shows me a 1971 Electra 225 455 ci. original light green paint and perfect interior with 130,000 miles on it. His wifes dad bought the car new ,he has a 1975 with 80,000 on it also. His wife only 88 years old says to sell the car to the nice young boy (I am 47). Do these cars have any problem rust area I need to look for? ( there is bubbling under the bottom of the front fenders). He says give him a price. N.A.D.A says the car is worth anywhere from 1500 to 6000. Anyone who has purchased on latley or knows about any information would help . Sorry about the long post but the story was to good to be true. :)

I recently went and looked at a 75 electra that belonged to an old lady, she wanted 300$ for it. It had a slipping transmission, otherwise it seemed ok, except for the plastic body trim parts that just gives up in the sun. I bought the wheels for 60$, and put on a set of steel wheels so it could still be driven. I don't know what you should pay for it, it's not a convertible and they made like 125.000 of them / year or something, so it's not that rare. If it's nice and functional and you don't want to take them to the cleaners, offer a grand or something???

Is it a two or four door? Send picks if you have them. Were you looking to get it for yourself? I've been looking for a 71 electra four door for some time now, but all the one's that I do find a totally trash or work a arm and a leg. Please keep me posted in the case that you didn't want it for yourself. p.s. If you do keep it for yourself please post a pick, I'm interested in seeing what they had just stored away. good luck :TU:

Thanks guys, it is a 4 door. Body is straight a ding in the rear bumper. It has the trailer package with a perfect white interior ,Hardtop. He drove it to Florida (1300 mi.) several years ago. Drives real nice (never drove one now I know why they call them boats) . It started right up no smoke ,the heads were rebuilt. I am still thinking about a offer. If I pass I will let you know, even if I buy it I will post a picture and may decide I do not need it.

Hello I would be very interested in the car if you were willing to pass or sell it off. I actually don't have much money, but I'm damn near ready to cut off an arm to get another duece and a quater. I was looking around the 1000-1500.00 price range if possible. I don't know for sure, the one's that I've found was in horrible shape for this price range, or they were costing a mint!!!! Please keep me posted my name is George I could be reached directly at my cell phone at 414-940-3222. I will be looking forward to the pictures, also if you want to send some directly to me you could send them to george_bullox@yahoo.com. Thanx much and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. :TU:

the only ones of these that bring any money are REALLY LOW MILEAGE mint cars - the most I have seen a 71/72 go for is $9K with 11,000 miles on it a couple at the $7K - $8K range with less than 20,000 miles on them - these cars often hit ebay and often don't meet very low reserves, or even often don't get bids hardly at all. $1000-$1500 isn't out of line especially with some rust issues starting.

George you are the one I will give first call to if I do not buy it or I sell it. Send me a pm so I do not lose your info.. Keith thanks for the info. I think I am going to offer about $1500 and see what he says. Oh yea George if I do buy and want to sell (I am lacking in storage )my mother lives in Youngstown Ohio and I visit all the time. It will be a little bit closer and the 71 Electra,s rusted out in Ohio in 73 so it would be fun to cruise around till you could pick it up. :) Thanks Dave.

Keith is right about ebay and the prices. After all I paid $787 for mine. My car i supposed to have 150K but I dont believe it. Green ext. and white int. loaded like most Electras. Pop the skirts off it it has them and check for any rust along the lip and quarters. Pop the hood look down the front fender to bottom, or open the front drivers door and try to see if theres a buildup of leaves, dirt, sticks etc. Repeat for passenger side. If it has a vinyl top, check around it and feel for any distortions, look around trim too. Goodluck, sounds like someone will get a good deal. :TU:

And don't forget to check the area on the driver side where the parking brake is attached, water running down from the windshield clips can build a really big rusty area there.

Always pull the lower rear seat, this is a well know rust area, especially for vinyl roof cars, due to water leaking because of rust building up onder the top.
And take a flash light to check out the area in the booth, in front of the rear wheel wells.

Cars like this will sell in the Netherlands for US$ 7000,- and a pristine one will go for over US$ 12500,-

Look at the frame for rust in the usual places, mainly near the rear suspension lower arms. Also, look at the area near the rear side markers on the 75, near the front ones on the 71. Lower fenders and inner part of the rocker panels also have to be checked. Like Erik said, the vinyl roof is another thing to look at for hidden rust and water leaks. The lower edge of trunk doors are also prone to rust on both models. Look carefully at the 1975 front bumper as well as the bumper impact strips.

I recently sold my 74 LeSabre two door hardtop with 93,000 mi and no a/c or power options for 1700$ canadian. It ran fine and didn't have a lot of rust like many others I have seen but it wasn't near perfect either... I was surprised to see the interest it got and how fast it sold!

Well I offered $1600 which is above low retail by NADA. Turns out the old fellow is a fan of Barrett- Jackson auctions and felt it was worth much more. He said he would think it over, he still would not tell me what he wanted for it. Will wait and see.

I bet that right before the minute you asked him about it, he probably thought it wasn't worth anything. Since you asked, he has asked his grandson to do some research on old cars on the internet and so forth, and the there's your answer.
