A guy at the swap meet this weekend told me his brother had a '65 or '66 GS sitting around and would probably sell it. I call the guy and he doesn't know what year it is nor does he seem to care. I go to look at it and its a '67 that is wasted, but complete. The carb has a pie tin on it so no star wars for me. Floors are rotten, but I've seen worse. Keys are in the ignition so I try the trunk and first thing I see is the star wars air cleaner housing in nice shape. The chrome nut is there also, but no base. There is a lot of trash in the car and I wasn't about to dig in as the spider factor was bad.Hopefully the base is in there. I don't know if it's a three or four speed as I couldn't get in with all the crap piled up in it. I offered him $400 he said he'd take $500 and I said "DEAL." He's even going to flat bed it to my house about 30 miles away. Here's what the car has on it as far as I know right now: Red w/ red int.,power top, buckets,no console w/floor shift, AM radio/no A/C,the grill is there and cracked all over, but the trim pieces look good. I will check on the rear end, power brakes and steering when I go back to get it. Should work out to make my '67 Lark Conv into a nice clone. It is far to gone to save and I will post pictures to show it after I go back and get it. Plates on it say 1976 and it looks like has been sitting outside since then. I haven't verified any numbers, but it looks to be original to me and even if it's not I think it's worth $500 all day. Brian

    Sweet find

Hi Brian, Please let me know if you have any parts for the 67 4 speed you are not going to use. I need some stuff to restore my 67 400 convertible 4 spd. I sent you a PM.
Let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks Ed

    67 parts

Unless someone would want to buy and restore this car, which I'm sure it is way to far gone to do, I'll be turning my lark into this GS. My conv. is a California car that is real solid. I was building a 455/th 400 for it, but I'll keep driving it with the 300 until I get everything ready to make it a GS. I don't plan on selling any parts and will probably end up looking for more parts as a result of the new car. I should have some pics by this weekend.

    67 Gs

I hear ya screamin' Tim. I just want to say that I am the last person that wants to see an original car like this turned into a parts car. I've always wondered where the line is between restoring a car like this one and just plain switching one cars identity to another. What if in this case I called my Skylark the donor car and this GS the resto car. Where is the line that I can't cross before all I've done is make a switch between the two cars. This GS needs everything replaced. So let's say for argument,I am donating my Lark to save it. After all is said and done is it wrong to title the finished car as the GS even though I've basically stuck with the Lark as the platform. I'm just throwing this all in the air as I've always thought about it. Is there a difference in the frame markings that would make a difference? I'll be asking more questions like this soon, but for now I guess I'd just like to know people's thoughts on these resto issues. I don't post here alot because usually I am learning from everybody else's posts and I am not too great at getting the thoughts in my head into words. I appreciate everyones comments and I'll probably be a little more of a regular soon. thanks.

I once sat at the crossroads of restoring a 1968 GS coupe or pulling the drivetrain out of it for my 1971 Skylark convertible. I finally just decided that the 70-72' body style was more to my liking and the convertible factor pushed me even harder. To this day, I still have mixed feelings about which car I should have rebuilt, but at least I enjoyed the heck out of the '71. Of course, your '67 is a little more of a rarity (if that makes any sense.)

Sorry, I guess I haven't helped you out much. :Do No:

Sorry but I would say save the car

It is 1 of 422 and if it is numbers matching. I use the other car as a donor or find another.

I'd say offer it up for someone to save if you're not going to. May save you a law suit down the road if you do a tag job? I've got two cars right now that were parted out to hulks and now I'm bringing them back. You could probably double your money anyways??

    67 Gs

Guys, I agree that this car needs to be restored. I just feel that the extent of the resto will use every piece of metal from my solid Lark conv. And I have no problem doing that. I am not planning on doing a tag job in the sense that I hastily badge my Lark on the outside to look like a GS. I would like to know what pieces of the RUSTY GS I need to use in order to say I restored it and didn't just switch tags. Obviously I will use the driveline and the dash (lark is A/C, GS is no A/C) but, is there a difference in the frames of a GS and a Lark conv ? I haven't been able to look at the frame and I'm afraid that it will be really rusted. What other less than obvious things are there and should I switch to another place on the board because I am going to be asking a lot of questions to make sure I do this right. I'm already going to sell one of my '66 Dodge Polara wagons and maybe both to get this project going. I appreciate all help and responses. Thanks

Not to change the subject, but my dad had a '66 Polaris wagon when I was a kid. I remember many-a-trip riding in the rear seat that faced towards the rear!

    Polara

Brent, I have two '66 Polara Wagons for sale so if you want to go back to those days I want $2200 for the 9 Passenger and $5200 for the 6 Passenger. Both are low miles and great cars. One has a better body and less miles. I am selling both, as this new project will need lots of time and money.

Thanks for the offer. It's tempting, but I'm still saving my pennies for another Skylark/GS. I don't even own a Buick right now. :ball:

My parents had one for a few months. The windshield leaked like a sive when it rained hard (this was when it was new). Was this a common thing or did we just have a lemon?

    Polara

I stored one of the Polaras outside a couple of winters ago and after a heavy snow I pushed off the snow and started it up. I noticed little beads of water around the bottom of the windshield. I also parted a '66 out a month ago and removing the windshield only took about 10 minutes with a regular razor blade. So,I would guess that they were prone to leaking from day one.

    67 Gs

Got the car home and couldn't move the shifter(crusty) so I crawled underneath and got a visual on the tranny. It's a 3 speed Ford. Tranny crossmember is rotted apart so I put a block under it to keep it from sitting way back. Has a posi tag on the rear. Manual brakes and power steering. Found the star wars base under 20 lbs. of oil dry. Anyone else own a '67 GS 400 3 speed or know of any others? Thanks

    Only 9 GS400 3 speeds

Is it a factory 3 speed? With that said you must save it. Is it a console car. That rear end should be a 3.36 posi.

    Nice score!!!!!!!!

    67 Gs

Ed, it is a factory 3 speed car with no console. This car was parked in '77 I'm guessing, and left to rot. VIN checks out and so do the heads and cowl tag. I'll get pics tomorrow hopefully.

I had a 65 with a toploader 3 spd. Didn't realize they still used them in 67. This is a very rare car indeed.
