In a couple weeks I'll be changing the oil in my car, and as usual I bought a Fram filter. I wanted to buy a WalMart brand filter, but they didn't have one for the car. Which I did think was rather odd. Now, I've heard that Fram filters are really crappy. But, this one seemed physically stronger than the Frams I've used in the past. So basically what I'm getting at is, are Fram filters getting better in quality? BTW: I have a Fram on the car now, and I'm not really having any problems, no lifter noise and the oil looks almost the same as it went it.
When I change my oil, I'll drain the old filter and cut it open. I'm curious to see what the insides of that filter look like after 2,500 miles.
No! Do not use fram filters. Just go get an ac delco. The fram filters have other problems besides crappy construction. Jim Burek
Look inside the filter...The ends that the filter media is glued to is made of cardboard, which can tear and separate and would allow unfiltered oil to pass through all the time...Maybe the ones in Europe are different... Go here for more info... http://minimopar.net/oilfilterstudy.html
Hrmm... the one thing I noticed in what I read on most forums in regard to Fram, were filters being made in Korea, etc. However, the last few I've bought, were made in the USA. Ok, well does anyone know where I could buy a Baldwin B9 or B39 filter? I've been looking around, and can't seem to find someplace.
good article. i've always gone with delco, or in a pinch, motorcraft. ford or not, they're cheap and good. i guess i can start buying purolators now, too.
