I just finished up installing my rebuilt TH400. I noticed that reverse did not work while I was running it through the gears getting the fluid level up to where it should be. I re-adjusted the shifter cable and even put it in reverse without the shifter hooked up and nothing. The tires do move a bit when going from park to reverse. I'm thinking it could be something in the valvebody but have no idea what to look for. Also it has an aftermarket reverse pattern manual valvebody of unknown mfgr. Can anybody help. Keep in mind I know very little about transmissions
Chris said that maybe the pin between the servo and the low/reverse band might have fallen out of place or didn't get put in to begin with. Might not have gotten initial adjustment either. Call the guy that rebuilt it and maybe he'd have an idea or two.
you could have a leaky servo or installed it backwards(i did this on my first rebuild) its the metal servo cover when you remove trans pan ,has 6 bolts also did you install the center support bolt thats near the valve body? see if you you engine brakeing in low 1 where it slows car when you let off gas
Alec, I had someone else redo the trans for me. He runs a trans shop and is a member of the board. I could take a look at the servo but wouldn't have a clue what to look for as to weather its installed correctly. Can both sugestions above be serviced with the trans in the car. I.E. by removing the pan.
You need to be more selective who you have work on your transmission. A mix match of gasket and valve body plate can ruin your day!
I thought I picked the best:bla: Better than that Jim Gibson guy at least.:moonu: :moonu: Thanks again Scott for the quik fix.:TU: :TU: Jim, No I don't have a trans brake. Maybe someday in the future.
Hey, I resemble that remark!:moonu: And, I only help friends with transmission issues.:bla: At least Scott is in the same time zone as you are!:idea2: Jim
