Hello all! I just rebuilt the 430 in my 1968 Riviera. Pretty close to getting it running again Problem: We installed OPG 3" low profile springs in the front and now it looks like the front cover is resting on the sway bar. This has me a little worried. Is this normal? What is the stock clearance? I don't remember if it was like this with the old springs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
That is not normal. Later I will go out and get a picture of my car. It has new springs and motor mounts so it should be as close as possible to original.
I dont have a riveria but a GS and I dont understand the question. The motor is fixed on the frame and the sway bar is fix on frame. So how can they get closer together dropping the car using springs. Here is a photo of my GS. George
The engine appears to be sitting low IMO. The harmonic balancer is just about scrubbing the sway bar, the oil pan had little to no clearance on the main crossmember and is not clearing the steering linkage by much. How is the fan clearance in the radiator shroud? It appears the motor mount brackets are bolted on and have other holes, is it possible to reloacte the brackets to lift up the engine an inch or so. What do you others think?
If this is a totally different car/subject could you please post in a new thread with some pictures if possible so it can be addressed properly? Tanks!
Id think that even with the tail of the trans pressed against the floor boards the balancer would not hit the sway bar or cross member. If that was the case the engine would be noticeably tilted forward in the compartment. Love to help but need more info.
We must have a good picture in order to evaluate your concern. Too much left open for speculation on this one. I don't see how the relationship between the parts could have changed noticeably unless other major mods were done and if that werwe so you would have other problems.
Turns out, I put the front stabilizer bar upside down. Sorry. Pretty new to this, but..the car is now running and will soon be on the road. Thanks for your input. Next time I will add pictures with my question. I think that would have been beneficial.
