Most of the time I want to do front brakes, I have no intention of completely removing the brake caliper, but only plan on unbolting it for pad replacement or suspension work. Those things are heavy and awkward as most everyone already knows. I used to set it on a box or something to support it but that never seemed to work very well. Last year, I got an idea that works super everytime. I backed off the sheetmetal bolt a few turns in the fenderwell directly above the caliper and safety wired the brake component off of it. This keeps the weight off the brake line and the caliper out of the way. Just remember to tighten the fenderwell to fender bolt back up when you are finished!

on a rear wheel drive car just rest the caliper on the upper control arm. just wipe any grease on the ball joint first.
