    Patrick,
    Very interesting.

It looks like the 68 seat frames have the allowance for headrests built in, If the 69 headrests fit in the slides on the 68 seats, then you might be able to use the 69 or 70-72 set-ups as a retrofit.

The mounting hardware will look a little different, due to the release buttons & screws, but as long as you use all the “year correct” pieces it would work.

Have you tried to slide a 69 headrest into one of the 68 seats?

image.jpg According to the Fisher Body Manual: The notches in the post engage a detent spring in the seat back when going from all the way down to one of three height choices. The sideways detent (notch) is supposed to retain the headrest and the slot in the escutcheon is to insert the key to release it.

It’s funny that the top drawing shows the old style headrest while the bottom drawing shows the new ones.

69 reclining seat frame skeleton that i rebuilt. There is a lot of details, hours and fabrication to attend to and improvements to be done to enhance the factory attempt to create this option....just like the 68-69 console lid modification i did about 7 or 8 years ago getting rid of that "factory" kitchen cupboard latch that always gets jammed or stuck!

And I converted both the 69 driver and reclining passenger bucket seats with 69 correct pattern from Legendary with modern 6-way GM/ Camaro-Firebird-Buick etc. power seat bases which bolt right up to the 69 skeletons (as well as other years) with very minor mods adjustments. You can find these modern 6-way power bases with the wiring and 6-way switch intact, on eBay between $100.00 & $200.00
Note: Below picture is missing the wiring and switch and the upper part in the picture is what bolts to the floor. They laid the whole mechanism upside down in the picture. seattrack__57932.1421075560.JPG
