What is the year one part number because I have seen that the 501 part number does not fit well. Will this work on a 71 GS? Can I get the brace?

I am pretty sure it is the BA501 (is there a way to tell for sure by looking or measuring). I know that when I ordered it I asked for a 70 spoiler and baffle. It did not come with the center brace or hardware because I remember ordering the hardware and baffle as extras (see pics).

What is different between the years?

    Thanks

Not sure but I know that there is a difference because I have been doing some reserch on the board. Ond post states not to buy the 501 because it is very difficult to put on.

I don't know if any of them are easy to install. I had a Poston fiberglass spoiler on another car and my body man was not too happy with the difficulty of the installation. It looked real good until I crunched it on a block\curb in a parking lot. :Dou: That is why I never installed this one on my other car.

    Thanks for looking

    Mike,

Just to let you know that the baffle is different for ' 71 and '72, but the spoiler can be used.

It was, from my understanding, that a 70 baffle could be cut to work with a 71-72 bumper but a 71-72 baffle had the piece missing behind the license plate that made it poorly matched with a 70 bumper. I have a 70 car and bought the only baffle GM still had in stock in '81 and it didn't work because it left a gap behind the bumper below the license plate area.

    OK,
    Here's the skinny.

The baffles are made to fit the bumpers so there are 2-styles, (70) & (71-72)

The 70 spoiler style has a narrow edge at the top with the center mounting hole getting screwed into the support for the hood latch.

Very Very Very late 70 cars and all the 71-72 cars came with a spoiler with extra material at the top center area and they mounted to the core support and fenders only, NOT to the hood latch support.

The majority of the repro spoilers are the 71-72 style, not the cut down 70 style, and are sold this way so they fit all 3 years.

Mine are the only ones that are cut for the different years and have all the mounting holes pre-drilled.

So there you have it, and I hope this helps with your sale.
    Duane

PS. I don't think any of them are easy to install.

    Duane,

Thanks very much for the info.

I did not know what the difference was and I have looked at several cars from all 3 years. I guess there must be lots of repro spoilers out there because I don't think I have ever seen a real '70 with the "narrow edge at the top".

    Still for Sale!
