What is the stock diameter of the front sway bar on a 70 GS 350?

    1.25"?

    Just checking.

    Thanks

31/32 (1") was one, 15/16 may be another.
The 1-1/4" is a common swap from a mid-'80's Trans Am, direct bolt on with larger bushings.
Let me know if you need a NOS 31/32" front bar or a good used one.

What Steve said. Basically one inch. The rear bar on an F41 car is just under an inch.

    Okay - thanks guys!

I am looking at replacing the bushings and it was for a 1.25" in sway bar so I'll pass.

    Thanks for the help.

1970 vintage Monte Carlo SS454 had a 1.25" front stabilizer, as well. It fit my old '64 Malibu, so it'll fit a Skylark, too.

THere was also a 1" offered. A GS came stock with the 31/32 which is not the same as a 1" They have different ends to ID them. The Handling package on a GS included the 1" bar which has a different end for ID. They are DIFFERENT.

Okay -I need to clean mine off to see if there are any numbers on it and go from there.

    Bob,
There are no numbers on the front sway bars, the one end is stamped differently to designate the size.

One size will look like a small "drip" is attached to it, yet another will have 1 square edge, while another has 2 square edges.......................you get the point.

PS. If you want to know the size of your bar slide an open wrench on it.

Here is a good Identifier. I know it is an Olds Sheet but same bars were used.

Just cleaned it off - mine is definitely a 31/32. All I need are the bushings, not the bar.

    Thanks all!!

Order the bushings for the 1" bar that is what the assembly manual calls for. No one lists a 31/32" bushing anyway.

Yup - I saw some for 1 1/4" and didn't know if mine was that big or not. It's def a 1 inch (31/32) bar so I'll hunt for those bushings.

Now to figure out the shock problem. I'll have to get someone over that has a compresssor and knows what they're doing to get them out.

    I'm so frustrated.

    Thanks for letting me vent.

Can you show a picture of them?

Not sure how good these photos are - but the shock is in its cage with little to no chance of escaping.

Also is the pic of the sway bar. 31/32 right?

Make sure to take both J nuts off the lower control arm. If the shock is still tight take two screw drivers and use them to apply pressure between the control arm and shock mount bolt slot. They will come out.

So is the tube of the shock to fat to fit the hole? That is the 31/32" bar.

You got it. A guy at a local body shop here said to compress the sping a little, like the car would be sitting on the ground with the tires on it, but I can't see why that would make a difference, so I'll try it anyway.

They are out - took the claw end of a hammer to it and pryed them out. All is well.
