Got a rebuilt carb from a board member, I changed the rods and jets in it and I also got a 1" spacer to put underneath it.

After the install was all finished I fired the car up and it ran for about 30 seconds before it died. My girlfriend said there was a ton of white smoke coming out the back of the car and it would not re fire. I went back underneath the hood to check it out and there was gas everywhere.

The fuel inlet and the fuel line were actually dry but the intake was a pool of gas and the carb was also covered. It appears to be coming from somewhere in the front of the carb as the back of the spacer and carb itself are dry.

The gaskets are all new and the carb is on the intake tight, so I dont know how it could be leaking there. It is not leaking at all between the intake and spacer, just spacer and carb. The top of the carb around the accl pump is also a very wet spot. Is it possible I have something in the needle and seat or the spring in the accl pump wrong?

    HELP

stuck float, maybe a piece of teflon tape made its way in and wont let the float needle seat right. What happened to me. Whole top of the engine was in a pool of gas. Scary.

could whack it with something to maybe rattle it lose.

On motorcycles its common for the float to stick on the first filling.

Teflon Tape? I've always been taught to not use tape on anything to do with the carburetor.

And yes VERY scary. Not to mention the fact that by this time I was working with a flashlight in the dark.
