I'm ready to rebuild the Q-jet on my Centurion, but I can't loosen the fuel line nut that goes into the carb, even using a tubing wrench. It looks like the nut has been on there since, well, 1972.
Are there any tips for loosening that nut without destroying it and the fuel line? Or am I better off cutting the fuel line and putting in an in-line external fuel filter?

Spray it with some PB Blaster. THen have some one hold the Fuel fitting with a 1" open end. Put the 5/8 flare wrench on it and tap it with a small hammer until it breaks loose. Go easy. Hopefully, you haven't rounded off the fuel line nut.

I've used a small pipe wrench to remove stubborn nuts like that. Like said above, that PB Blaster is great stuff. Use if first to loosen things up.

Yes-these can be a little difficult. If the above fails, I do as with brakes-cut the tubing and put a 6 point socket on it-good luck!

You might consider the use of a line wrench. When I got into servicing Q-jets in the sixties, I found the correct line wrenches invaluable. They spread the torque across five of the six hex points, allowing more opening torque. They also concentrate less of the torque on the very points of the hex as typical open-end wrenches do. Food for thought.

    Oooh NOooo!

I hate to mention it but...

Did you try a pipe wrench on the flare nut and BFW on the filter housing nut?

Try holding the steel line with a Flairing Tool. It will hold the line without crimping it. Use PB and a Tubing Wrench. Try Tightening a little bit first to break the nut free, then loosen. Be gentle
