Its actually a pretty good question, what will be done with the gas vehicles? Nothing has really been said about that. NY State has a similar ban in their future and I would like to know where the law makers stand on this issue. They already want to ban natural gas appliances and not allow new appliances to be sold after 2035 so at that time you will be forced to "upgrade" to electric.

The original question will only start an argument if someone else actually starts one when they see something they don't like. I see it could already be happening.

I think the OP topic is better than the grammar police. Talk about needing a life:confused:

One difference is that no one was forcing a horse or car on anyone. You were free to choose.

My guess if they follow through with mandating electric vehicles is that a new carbon tax will be created making it impossible for the average person to own an ICE vehicle. On top of that gasoline will be made to be so expensive that only the rich and the government will be able to afford it.

For the natural gas appliance ban they never talk about the cost of upgrading 100-year-old homes with two wire 50-amp systems over to modern electric. Most of the inner city houses still have boiler heat and natural gas appliances. What will be done then? Condemn them? Govt grants of taxpayer money to upgrade them?

Its easy to say ICE and Natural Gas will be banned without having a real plan for the average person to comply. Ask the people passing these mandates the hard questions and I bet they won't have a clue how to answer.

The White house uses gas stoves, and gas heat. Waiting for them to set the example. All those that say we must seem to have excuses for their huge houses, private planes, lot of trips home, yacht's, SUV's etc. Lead by example and maybe I'll follow, but do as I say, not as I do and I will write you off as a bull**** artist. Unfortunately to many fall into that category. Have they given up their gas stoves, gas heat, big SUV's etc. NOT

Canada already has a carbon tax, which is set to increase on April 1st. That coincides with a pay increase for our elected MP's. Hmmmm.

Ask the average person about plans to upgrade 100+ year old home's electrical systems, or what the other hidden compliance costs will be and most won't have a hot clue. But they'll be front and center whining and complaining once forced to change.

Exactly. The market decided when horses were no longer the preferred method of transport, not some government mafia-type that STILL uses the very things they wish to ban for the "little people" they "serve." Do as I say, not as I do" never flew with me. Ask my Mom how many times she threatened to backhand me for pointing out this as a child.

Between that and government bailouts, it is time the market decided who the winners and losers are.

To the original point, EV is still just the CD/DVD/LaserDisc of the auto industry. ICE won't be gone in 100 years because they will find a way to make H2 ICE or other methods of creating alternative fuels. Mostly, this will be powered by nuclear power generation, as it is the only truly reliable and non-CO2 emitting way to get massive amounts of electricity.

I read an article where Porche was create gasoline from CO2 in Brazil. Toyota is backing hydrogen power (H2) in cars over pure EV.

I think on this issue consumers will decide.. and if the elected folks won't comply with our wishes, we will elect others who will. Watch how fast the average politician all the sudden becomes a "freedom of movement" (or whatever catchy name someone comes up with to fight off the EV mandate), supporter, once they see their cushy gig threatened.

Right now, the EV push is all the rage at the cocktail parties.. You demonstrate your "woke" status to the neighbors with your EV purchase.

You just wait till that first soccer mom runs of juice on the freeway, with a van full of kids, and some reckless/careless driver comes along and plows into them. That's coming, it simply a matter of time. You have to remember, there is a segment of our population that could not think their way out if a paper bag.. so they will load everyone up and head out on the freeway, regardless of what lights/warnings are flashing on the dashboard.

The suburban mom support will evaporate in milliseconds.. and I don't even think a woke media can stop it, by downplaying/not broadcasting the story. Word gets around in those circles. Suburban Husbands fall in line, and before you know it, my yard full of 20 year old gas powered SUV's value spikes dramatically. If I had a couple hundred K that I had nothing to do with, I would build myself a storage facility, and go buy up all the 1 year old/10K mileage SUV's/crossovers I could find.. they will in be heavy demand and prices will spike on them, in that interm period before the EV wave is rolled back.

They started to put Tesla charging stations in some Holiday gas stations around here.. I see the Tesla's lined up sitting there being charge, while I am fill up my SUV in about 3 minutes.. and then I smile and wave at them as I drive by.

    Silly fools..

Now, there will be a segment of the market that EV's work for.. so I do see the EV as a viable transport device for that segment.. It's the "commute to work" car for families that can afford multiple vehicles. But for general use, and any kind of travel, especially in the northern tier of states during wintertime, EV's are not a realistic options, unless you can convince folks to sit in their car when it's -10 for an hour to charge it up.. good luck with that.

It will take a generational change to accept EV's across the board.. those of us who have lived our our lives with the convenience of fossil fuel vehicles, will by in large reject the EV.. but if your conditioned to charging your car, and being limited in your movement by what your car is capable of, then they will be accepted... will the movement last that long.. who knows? Way too early to tell, as well implement government mandates. Let's see if these actually are implemented in 2030 or 2035.. or if they get "postponed" out to the future..

I think some of these dates will get postponed or extended too. It’s easy to just throw out dates but harder to actually meet those artificial deadlines.
