    wow..

I was out in the shop, when I heard this.. it's about a 1/4 mile from the shop.. Rattled the doors of the shop hard enough that I stuck my head out the back door, to see if someone had run into one of the enclosed trailers out back.. did not see anything so I went back to work.

UPS Lady came in about an hour later, and told me that a building just north of here on US Highway 10 was completely destroyed by the explosion..

Was just looking at it on the local news.. they have that major highway completely shut down, and there is nothing left of that building..

    here is the story.

That's a little too close for comfort.. Glad I'm in a concrete building, that's only a couple years old.. Our utilites in the immediate area are very new.. but this was an older area of development, right along the highway.

    It was quite a boom..

Jim, those explosions wake you up a little don't they. Pretty common actually. We have had a few gas explosions in IL this year. Alot of damage. I personally enjoy when your inside trying to knock a fire and the home owners ammunition for his guns lights, or the torches in the garage etc. Ruin a good pair of boxers in a hurry. Tony

They showed one live on the news here at some place up there that was flattened but they said something like Ramsey Mn.

    That's it Jim,

I am right on the border of Anoka and Ramsey.

Man.. news choppers constantly overhead for at least the last three hours..

And yes, It startled Bud-Dog.. he had to jump off the couch, and run around the shop barking for a few minutes. This must have worn him out, since he promptly went back to sleep on the sofa in my office, and only woke up when I brought my lunch in a few minutes ago.

And yes Dana.. UPS Lady... but not my type... good lookin' tho.. just a bit too thin and short for me.. also prolly in her Mid-late 40's ..

    Ed likes her...

    Jim,
Glad to hear you guys weren't any closer. Saw it on the TV at lunch.
Told my buddy that when you can see dirt where the foundation was then that had to be one serious concentrated blast. Natural gas?

Yes, they think so.. apparently there was some gas line repair going on in the vicinity.

Looks like 3 fatalities and 1 survivor.

    Unbelievable

On New Years eve in 1994, I had just gone to bed after midnight and must have fallen asleep right away. My wife claims a few minutes later she heard a big bang and came in to se if I had heard it too, wondering what it could havce been. I don't remember hearing a bang, and I don't remember my wife waking me up.

The next morning on the news was the story of how the local hardware store blew up. It was an old town and this store was in a old stone building. This was approximately 2 iles away from my house. Investigators later said trucks riding over the intersection damaged the gas supply pipes and the gas had seeped into the basement through the porous stone walls. The tennants, a young couple, had been celebrating NYE with their parents who lived right down the road from me. Apparently the parents gave them just enought time to get home and then rang them up to be sure they got there okay.

The phone ringing set the gas off. The fire was horendous. Flames coming from the sewer covers. burned for two days at least. Killed that young couple too. The parents were devastated given their unwitting part in the event...

I still feel bad for them all. But I never heard the blast, nor the sirens, nor subsequent blasts as propane and other combustibles exploded from the heat.

Sure would have been bad if a building full of classic buicks blew-up
    Bad enough as it was.
