Spectra makes a 70 tank with the correct filler neck. Several years ago, you couldn't get a 70 tank with a filler neck, you had to reuse your old one from your old tank. But, the 69 tanks came with a filler neck. So the 70 guys were putting in 69 tanks into their cars. The only issue was the filler neck was 3/4" shorter. But that issue has been resolved
Do you recommend a treatment or clear coat for the outside of the tank for protection? If so, what kind?
All GM gas tanks are Terne coated which currently is a combo of zinc and tin. Back when our cars were new, it was lead and tin. So no additional coating is required
I bought a Spectra for my 71 Skylark, with the neck installed. It was a great match-Except my old cap wouldn't fit and I had a hellofa time finding the correct cap. Even the cap I purchased separately from Spectra didn't fit. Check yours before you install the new tank.
Should I use my stock sender or buy the spectra with the sender included. It is a bummer because I just had mine restored. I just want to make sure I buy properly. Thanks.
Are Spectra tanks better than others that vendors are offering, and what do you look for to be able to tell?
I assume the gas tanks are exact replicates so my sender will go right in? Also there are a ton of different ones, gm34a, b, x,xfi, what is the correct one for a 1970 gs350? Also the prices are wildly different for the same model from different vendors, are there people selling tanks and calling them spectra?
Yes, the tank is an exact replica so your factory sender will fit just fine, I bought my tank from Rock Auto. This is an old thread from when I put my tank in. Some good info- http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?th...-correct-part-number-for-70-fuel-tank.219920/
