I think that my SP400 is giving up the Ghost, It has begun to act weird  .
Here is the problem: When I start the car in the morning or after sitting for sometime, and I put in to Drive it is fine it will shift thru all the gears and then after about 15 mintues of driving the trans begins to act up and by this I mean it will not shift into Drive after I have come to a stop and begin to roll again it will shift from 1st to 2nd and then when it needs to hit drive it seems to stay in 2nd gear. It is hard to explain but I can say this that the trans seems to Shift fine from 1st to 2nd and then it will not shift into drive, Also I can hear a whine coming from the transmission. The Fluids are fine and also they are new and at the correct amount. I do not have the Switch pitch hooked up due to the fact that I am tring to Make a correct bracket to hook up to my Edelbrock carb that does not have the correct connection to hook up the "PLUNGER SWITCH". I had read that I could drive the car with out the S/P hooked up with out hurting the car the only thing that would be a problem is that I would not have that Kick down when I wanted it.
Can anyone help me ? Or is my Transmission giving up the Ghost
    :Do No: :Dou: :af:
Is there anyone near me that knows about the S/P Transmission and can help me? I live in Pa just outside of Philly?
Thanks for any advice or help in advance,
    Don

    Hey Don,
Sounds like you are close to Yardley. Why don't you bring the car to the picnic this Saturday. With all the Buick nuts there, maybe we can figure out what's wrong.

First thing I'd check is the vacuum modulator and make sure it's getting a good vacuum signal. Maybe the nipple on the intake manifold is plugged with carbon? If fluid runs out of the nipple on the modulator it's shot. The whining could be a defective filter (had that happen to me once) or maybe your tranny is just tired......my kids used to whine when they were tired too.

Yes, your invited, all of V8 is invited, but Yardley would have a problem if everyone showed up  Yardley is just north of Philly in Holland PA, how far can that be for you? How's the fluid look? The trans should be OK for a short distance, especially if you take it easy.

    Fluid looks fine

I am wondering if my Detent Switch is hung up or went bad? Is there anyone close by me that could help me? I have called a few Shops and when I tell them it is a Super Turbine 400 or a Switch Pitch Trans they say that is just Buick's name for the
TH 400 :Brow: :error: . I am afraid to take it to anyone unless I am sure that they know what they are doing :Smarty: I am really bummed that I could not make it to Yardly's Bash this past weekend  ! Last mintue things came up i.e. The Wife went to the Shore with her Sisters and I had to stick around and watch the Dogs and take care of my youngest Daughter (16) :( it was :boring: all weekend long except for Father's Day
I thought they would get me a Tranny expert as a gift
I ended up with all sorts of Goodies to clean my Cat tho! :TU:

It's easy to do that yourself. Just run a temporary jumper wire from the lower pin on the tranny to +12v (you can use the orange wire as a power source, just check it for juice with a test light first) and put it in drive with your foot on the brake. Then remove the wire, you should feel a difference.

If you accidently power up the kickdown, it won't hurt anything.......I always get the two mixed up I'm pretty sure it's the lower pin. I'd be really surprised if the problem is not electrical. :bglasses:
