    Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am trying to work out a deal for a group buy of Goodyear Repops from Kelsey tire. What is different on this one is, I would be able to pick these tires up from Kelsey and deliver them to Martin for a cheaper price than having them dropped shipped to your house. I am trying to find out how the group buys have been run in the past as far as payment. I would have to have an order of 25 tires for them to work the wholesale pricing gig. Let me know by PM or responding here if you want me to pursue this! (Make this happen so I must show up to Martin!)

Let me double check to see if they make a size we need, then I could say we would be in for a set of four.

The Hurst Hairy did 4 wheel burnouts through the entire 1/4 mile with special compound tires made to do that. Still ran 145 in the 1/4.

One night at Motor City, the Olds engineers and Hurst people decided to see what it would do with 4 regular slicks. First run it went skyward up on the bumper and hit the rev limiter on the front motor instantly.

They the isolated the two powertrains and Schubeck took off the line on the front engine with the rear engine idling in neutral. The plan was to then engage the rear engine and nail it, too. (kind of like the way you run a Buick with the two speed convertors).

After a coupla neat noisy trials, it was getting late so he went for it with a full run. Was really fast, but no one paid any attention to the times and speed because right after the chutes popped out (had 3) it backfired through the rear engine and shot flaming nitromethane all through the cockpit engulfing Schubeck in flames. Last we saw was it going out into the darkness in a ball of flames like the movie "Christine"

Found out later that he bailed out, car ran over his leg and broke it, but he nearly got killed by the chase cars from Olds and Hurst as he was lying on the middle of the track. OK otherwise.

Car continued through the night on the front engine for a long way and ended up still running up against a tree overlooking I-94 near a farmhouse. A quick shot from a fire extinguisher in the front intake scoop ended that.

Later when they went to retrieve it in the Hairy hauler, they had to back the truck down a long driveway to that farmhouse to get near the car. They were met by a lady with a shotgun who thought they were coming to steal her furniture. They settled her down, but then ran over her cat with the truck when they left.

What a crazy night. Both Linda Vaughn AND Jungle Pam were there that night.

Bailing out of a flaming car to be nearly run over by the chase vehicles, that story's as good as the E-town jet car guy that ended up in a tree.

Schubeck got an award at the NHRA banquet that year for the only driver to lose his car in a race. Guess he didn't think it was that funny. Guess one of the cars had a mind of its own and took off across a field and they had a hard time finding it another time. (there were two, the 66 that burned at Motor City and a 67 that was toned down a little for the next season)

    Ladies and germs,

I am going to cancel the tire buy at this current time due to lack of interest.

I am, however, going to work on getting a tire buy together in July-August and I am going to work on group buys for both Coker and Kelsey. Each one of those will require 25 tires to purchase at the discounted price. Please keep this in mind, as I am sure that some of you guys are going to need some rubber for new projects or for Stanton. :TU:

If you want me to continue on with this tire buy, I need to know.

Sorry I didn't get back with you sooner Rusty, been extremely busy lately.

I think you will have better luck with a Coker group purchase, as opposed to a Kelsey group purchase, simply because Coker has a bigger selection of sizes.
Of course, this is only an opinion:Do No:

I'll have my decision after Memorial Day. If I need them, I'm looking at 5 GY Polyglas from Kelsey. Again, I'll know more after Memorial weekend. Thanks.

I'm sorry I didn't see this thread until now. What was the price for F70-14 GY Polyglas (1970 style)? Keep me in mind if you decide to put this group buy back together at a later date.

    Okay,

As promised, the tire buy is offically back on. After following some advise, I am going to stay with Kelsey Tires ONLY!!!! This means Good Year only! We need 20 tires for the group buy to take place. I am not in this to get rich, just trying to help out some fellow racers. Here is the deal.... I am going to lay it all out so no one has any questions.

    1. PM me with the tire size and quantity that you are looking for. Also let me know if you want raised white letter, white stripe, blue stipe, red stripe....

    2. Let me know if you want me to pick the tires up and deliver them to Stanton or have them drop shipped to your house. For delivery to Stanton, I will add $10/tire for delivery. For those tire that are drop shipped, give me your zip code so that we can get the shipping cost right and I am going to charge $5/tire for organization fee.

    3. As of right now, I am going to ask that funds be mailed to me by check. I will not order any tires until I have the 20 necessary for the group buy. Once I get the 20 tires, I will place the order and cash the check. If we fail to get the 20 tires, I will send the checks back.

    4. Please line this up as quick as possible. If they have any delays or are short any tires, the quicker they know, the sooner the tires will be made.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I will try to go to pick them up on Sept 1st if this come through. If you want the tires prior to Stanton, we will have to do the drop ship thing.

I have the price list, but I am not going to put it out for public consumption. If you want to know the price, PM me or give me a call on my cell (816) 309-5961.

Just a racer (wannabe) trying to help out his friends.:TU:

Rusty, I've had the red line Goodyears on my '68 GS for about 7 or 8 yrs now, the rears are starting to show some wear(I wonder why?:Dou: ) I'm thinking now that the front end has been rebuilt(new shocks, springs, ball joints, upper and lower bushings in powder coated control arms) and the front end alignment for $45, I can swap the tires from the front to the back for Stanton, and with some other little overdue work, I can whip a certain Ram Rod in September.
So, just a little encouragement for your tire deal. Kelsey has the original molds for these tires from Goodyear, and was told were the best of the re-pops by a guru, who worked for Goodyear and several others, and is still consulting in the industry. If you get close and need 4 more to make the deal, though, let me know, I might just pop for the G70-15 for a certain GSX, that should come out from hiding, one of these days, even if it's still rusty, not you the car!:Dou: :beers2: :beers2:

I just spoke with John Kelsey today and they have a good stock on most of the tires, but right now they are out of F60 and G60-15's. They should be getting some in soon, but then again they also have backorders on the G60's. Let me know if you are wanting any so we can get your name on them. I am making progress on the number! :3gears:
