for low optioned car in sig. only has AC no power windows locks or seats. bench seat car

replacing stock AM unit and stock front and passenger side rear speaker set up with:

    4" - Kenwood KFC 1079ie (2-way 2 speaker)

    6"X9" - Kenwood KFC 6969ie (3 way 3 speaker)

    headunit - Kenwood KDC 222

the 4" will be for stock front speaker bracket as I read here.

will dremel driver side panel opening and metal bracket for second 6 X 9 and use existing passenger side opening.

will dremel stock bezel to fit modern style headunit.

    ?'s are:

1 - did you use speaker wiring that came with speakers or buy a different guage wiring (16?) and crimp end connections for + and -speaker connections.
did you run rear speaker wires through back seat along passenger side under carpet and door sill to behind kick panel and up behind stock location?

2 - where are you running headunit yellow (contant 12 V power source) wire to (another wire or fuse box - which fuse)

3 - where are you running headunit red (accessory/ACC ignition in ON position) power source wire to (another wire or fuse box - which fuse)

4 - where are you running headunit black ground wire to on chassis

5 - is a dash kit necessary for install

6 - is an antenna adapter required

want to do this with my son (his first car) on Sunday. Having a tough time finding an install kit locally. Have a few more installation places to hit on Saturday.

    TIA

And a big thanks from my wallet to Driver2 for all his posts in regard to stereos. speakers and headunit came to less than $250 where I was gonna get crazy with Alpine stuff.

the speaker wire that came with th speakers should be fine ...
dont just run wires under the door seal. ... lay them under the edge of the carpet several inches on one side of the car.

on your fusebox, your yellow wire connects to the terminal labeled "Batt" or "Bat"

red wire to the terminal labeled "Acc"

the black wire should be grounded to a clean piece of metal on the firewall. you can use an exsisting screw or bolt if possible.

if your red and/or yellow wires have fuse holders inline. do not cut them off. if there is extra wire ..... you can re-route a lil longer route. if you were to remove the fuseholder and there was a short in the radio, not much would protect th car from possible fire.

    no antenna adapter needed ....

your other Qs will be better answered by other members who aware more familiar with your dash opening.

"Audio" magazine did some testing on speaker wires about 15 years ago. one of these tests determined that properly gauged different length wires would not become a (timing)problem until one wire was about 700+ feet longer than the other (assuming that neither wire is still on a spool where inductance can become an issue).
    :Smarty:

a book called "auto audio" is good primer reading for anyone that is gonna deal with 12v systems. it covers alot about car stereo, but the knowledge can easily carry over into troubleshooting other problems.

i would run both speaker wires down the passenger side of the car well under the carpet. that way, if/when you add an amplifier, you can run your patchcords down the drivers side on the car away from any potential EMI/RFI problems that the amplifiers powercables ... or even speaker wires might emit.
on an amplifier install, you would then run your amps power cables down the passenger side of the car (at least 6-8 inches away from your speaker wires) giving you a straighter shot from the battery to the trunk.

running your red and yellow wires of your cd player directly to the fusebox eliminates hacking the (expensive to replace or repair) factory wiring harness. it can be accomplished without any modification to the cars wiring.

    have fun!!:TU:

Although I TIA'd above I gotta chime back in and extend my sincere thanks to you two.

You confirmed both my courses of planned action. I'm trying to avoid looking inept in front of da kid! He already knows I'm a big dummy!

I did do the rebate. Was looking for "Package Deal" and wound up buying separately at Best Buy and Circuit City- HU 129.99, 4" 59.99 and 6X9 45.00 not counting $20.00 rebate. :)

Thanks again. This thread will help the next gal/guy who uses the "search" feature.

Good Call, Yuk!:TU: I read that book "Auto Audio", too, every chance I get (when I'm at the Bookstore:laugh::Dou: ). I know, I know, "it's NOT a Library", I should just BUY the book.:Do No:

I agree, though, that there is a lot of info for installation procedures, planning and choosing your components for your "system", testing techniques, diagrams, and a TON of other "useful" stuff in there, that can be applied to other types of maintenance and repair.:Smarty: :bglasses:

    Jim,

You really DID "SCORE"!:eek2::bglasses: $45 for a Pair of Kenwood 6x9s?!! NICE!!! Not bad on the 4" or the Head Unit, EITHER!:TU: :bglasses:

If you go to "The Bench", and look at page 3, 4, or 5, maybe, and find "Car Update" by Driver 2 (me), and there is a close up picture of my Kenwood CD player installed in my Skylark!

I posted it here FOR THAT REASON, so other guys could see what it looks like, installed, and get ideas to do their own (just like YOU are!:TU: ). :bglasses:
