I have a 71 Skylark Custom. It currently has the 14X6 Super stock wheels on it. I do have a set of Chrome Modulars I would like to try on it.

The chrome Modulars are 15X7 Front and 15X8 rears. The fronts and rears both have a 4" offset(backspace). Whats a good overall tire size to use on the front and rears.

Whats a good combo? Is there a wheel and tire visualizer somewhere on line so I can see just what the car may look like with the wheels and tires installed?

    Hi,
With 15x7 in the front you can use 245x60x15 tires and with 15x8 in the back you can use 275x60x15 tires (this is what I am going to do on my 71 Skylark). If you ever want to get rid of those 14x6 super stock wheels let me know :)

I appreciate the info. Not quite ready to turn the 14X6 wheels loose yet. When the time comes I will certainly let you know.

Thanks and no problem about the info. I'll post a new pic of my 71 when I get the 15x8s on the rear with 275x60x15s on later this week for you to get an idea of the rear set up.

or if you want to run a spare you may go 295 50 15s on an 8in rim with 4.5 bs and a 245 60 15 on a 7in rim with 4.25 bs

that would makwe the car look mean, almost went with this combo but i opted for the 275s in the back instead

Well I just mounted a pair of decent 205/70/15 tires I have laying around for the fronts(15x7) 4" backspace and purchased a pair of 275/60/15 BFG tires for the rears(paid $75 for the pair) and am gonna mount them on the 15X8 wheels with 4" backspace.

Will I have ANY rubbing issues at all in the rears with this tire & wheel combo?

there might be a slight amount of rubbing, I have my 275s mounted on an 8in with 4.5 bs
and I know members have ran 275s on stock 7in 4.25bs with no reported rubbage

I am going to use the same combo on my car's rear - 275/60/15 tires on my 15x8 Buick rallys when they arrive (hopefully soon!). The only difference is my 15x8s will have a 4.5" backspace - don't know if a 4" backspace will cause any problems? There should be no rubbing of that tire combo on the rears though.

I've had just about every size tire on the back of my car. With a 15x8 rim with 4.5" of backspacing, you are perfectly centered in the wheel well. The 4" of backspacing will put your tire closer to the wheel well lip. But I believe with just a 275/60R16 tire, you should be OK. I run a 325/50 tire on a 15x10 rim with 5.5" backspacing and I just make it. With your tire being 2" narrower, that gives you an extra inch inside and out. So the 1/2" closer to the wheel well will be close, but should make it.

You can always trim back the wheel well lip just at the top. No one will ever see it. Just try and not cut into the spot welds that connect the inner and outer rear quarters. Or you can roll it with an old wooden baseball bat. Just stick the bat up in there with the tires in place and have someone very slowly pull forward and roll the bat across the top of the wheel well to push the lip up and out of the way.

Neat trick to roll the lip Phillip - thanks!
