I told one of my clients that I was looking for a 71bc or 73bc turbo 400 transmission for the valve body. Well he goes junk yarding and brings me two pontiac turbo 400s. One is a long tailshaft coded 73pd the other is a short tailshaft coded 76pg. The 73pd looks like came out of a wagon with a 400 2bl carb, but i can't seem to decode the 76pg. Anyway are the valve bodies keepers. The price was right as in $0. :Brow: Thanks for the help. Joe
I think all TH400 valve bodies are the same, if you want to change the personality of the trans, you can get a B&M shift kit and modify the plate mounted between the valve body and the trans itself. You can also modify the governor and the vacuum modulator but the valve body itself should be the same.
Thanks for the reply. :TU: But I seem to have read in a previous thread somewhere that the shift valves were different on some turbo 400s especially the 1-2 valve. o No: I have to do some more checking.
Not all 400 valvebodies were the same. The best was without a doubt the 1970 BB valvebody that came in the 70 GS Stage1. The Switch Pitch valvebodies lacked a 3-2 valve, so there was no part throttle kickdown, just full throttle. The calibrations were different.
