Been looking at GoPro 2 & 3. I don't make my living running a race shop or selling videos so thinking a Hero 2 should work Wondering how good the audio is. Anybody been able to shave some ET with data from a GoPro ? Thanks in advance
I got the Go Pro Hero 3 last Christmas and used it at some of the F.A.S.T./Factory Stock and Pure Stock Drags. The wind noise is terrible when mounted outside the car. I tried a few tricks that people talked about online, but haven't found the cure. The video portion is excellent and is easy to upload to your computer or even the interenet. Dave
I've used video footage (from people using my video camera) to help diagnose suspension issues and hook up at launch. Slo motion playback was a huge help to help me dial in my launch. If it's allowed, a little Gopro mounted to the lower rear 1/4 panel in front of the rear tire to moniter launch and traction might help if you're alone.
What really helped me was a G-Tech RR data logger....OK, so the 1/4 mile and mph times don't necessarily jive with the timeslips (but aren't far off), but the RPM graphs really helped dial in shift points. The G meter also helped me see how hard I was launching, and gave me comparative HP and Torque readings..it was great when I was setting the car up and making incremental changes.
Funny you should ask. I was at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show in Indy on Friday. Go Pro had a huge display there. Spoke with a rep about the problem and he asked me the same thing. I said it was the open back, he took a closed back off of his camera and gave it to me. I'm anxious to give it a try in 2014.
