There are several steps to the process, and probably a different way to do it other than what I will describe here.
First you will need to upload the pictures from your camera to your hard drive. Most digital cameras have software included with the purchase, if you do not have software you will need to contact the manufacturer to get a copy.

Next you will need to resize the photo. Most forums have a limit on the size a file can be, this forum is no exemption. I am not sure what the limit is on this forum, I generally limit my pictures to 600 x 600 pixels or 5 x 5. Most software (if included with your camera) will allow you to re-size a photo, but if yours does not follow the link for a free photo re-seizer. http://www.showyourphotos.com/photoresizer_free.html

Next you need to have the photo hosted on the web. Here is a link to a free picture hosting site http://www.imageshack.us/index.php You will need to register and follow the instructions. After the photo is hosted on the web you will need to copy the location (address) if you use the aforementioned host it will look similar to this htp://img74.exs.cx/img74/4222/mycombo3.jpg. To copy left click on your mouse, hold it down and scroll across what you want to copy, then release. Next right click and select copy.

Then, in the V8 forum box (when starting/replying to a thread) when you want a picture included, use this before the picture address [IMG] i.e. [IMG] Look next to the p on your keyboard for these [ ], and the / is next to the period on the key board. Hope this is not to confusing to read, let me know if a can help any further.

Here is the above image imbedded in the thread

I would suggest to preview the post first until you have the technique down.

you don't need to put the photos on the web. At the bottom of the message you'll find a button to click on to attach a file. then you can search your own hard drive and attach it directly.

    Thanks Mike,
I tried this before on the new board and it inserted a link instead. It worked much better this time.

Great, I got it working with both methods.
I like the webhosting also for sharing pictures with friends. So many service providers have clamped down on attaching zip files.
Now I have the camera and 2 ways to share photos.
    Thanks to both of you.

Do you have to post pics on the web before making them an avator, or is it just the same as an attachment?

Rob, for an avatar, you need to have the picture on your own computer's hard drive, and be able to reduce it to 150 x 150 pixels max size. Then in your user control panel (User CP link near the top of the page), find the Edit Avatar link on the left side of the page and click it. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. You then click on the "browse" button to search your computer for the reduced size pic, then double click it to upload it to the board as your avatar.

If you don't have photo editing software on your computer, you can email your full size original pic, I will reduce it and email it back to you. Send to gramlow@cableone.net
