Coming down the freeway today, doing the speed limit (70mph), there is a Red Chevy truck about 5 car lengths ahead of me. All of a sudden this pretty big piece of thick sheet metal came from under his rear tire like he ran it over. Well, it popped up in the air and guess who caught it? My ranger caught it. I couldnt swerve because I had a divider to the left of me, and a car at my right. So, I sat there in what felt like slow motion as this metal is hovering towards my truck.I didnt even have a chance to brake. It smacked my front end pretty good. I got 2 dents in my hood now, and 2 nasty cracks in my grill, along with my drivers side mudflap bracket all bent to heck, and my drivers side headlight just sitting in its hole... If it would have came over my hood, it could have came thru the windshield and taken my head off, im sure of that....

Yea. It hit and I kept on driving for a few seconds before everything set in as of what happened. Then I pulled over to the side of the road and felt a quick adrenaline rush. Checked out the damage, got all angry and took off home. Thats when I started thinking, comparing the size and shape of the metal to the wind and speed it, and I was traveling and came to the conclusion that it could have easily came right through my windshield without a problem.

I havent even put 3k miles on this truck since ive gotten it, which is really upsetting considering that me and my father once drove a blazer over 200k miles without one problem.. But, things happen.. Its about surviving and how you deal with them that matters..

I just won an auction on eBay for a new grill. Now I need to find a new hood and headlight...

Yea, im really glad it wasnt my Riv. Id be seriously upset about that..

Yes, the Riv would have been lower down and from what you've discribed it wouldn't have been better from any angle.

I overheard something on the news today about a piece of steel falling off a flatbed 18 wheeler in CA, came thru the windshield of a minivan and killed 2 people... Dont know if it's a current story, or if they were re-capping old news, but it sure makes you think.

    Glad your ok dude :TU:
