My wife labled the waiting car sales people as vultures years ago. Ever since then I have always thought of them that way. This takes a while to read {nine sections} but I found it very interesting and well written. I will probably treat sales people at the dealership a little differently now, realizing they are under pressure from the owners and managers just like anyone else in the workplace, just to eek out a few bucks. Part 2 is a good page to start.

    Whew!

    You ain't kidding.

It's interesting to read about the 'other side of the fence' at a dealership.

    I couldn't do it.

    A very well done article

I spent nine years in the business (I guess that makes me a scumbag Kenny) either as a salesman or one of those evil sales managers. I can say that everything he wrote is true. From the stupid motivational sales meetings to the greed of the management. The pressure that is applied to salespeople is unbelievable.
In a big city market it is exactly what he described but I know of many small town dealerships where the environment is entirely different. You can actually talk to the same person all the way from start to finish and expect to be treated fair. A small town is hard to hide in if you are screwing people.

    Hi Marco,
I couldn't do it either! Years ago I interviewed and got a job at a Chevy dealership as a salesman. They too wanted to send me to a training course before I started selling. After going through that I decided I did not have the heart for it {or maybe the temper either} so I quit. In the right circumstances it could be a good job I suppose. The dealership we bought our Olds off of seems like a square bunch but the darn van is :gt: :blast: GM
